IRVING INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT DYSLEXIA SPECIALIST Job Description JOB TITLE: Dyslexia Specialist WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Exempt REPORTS TO: Dyslexia Coordinator PAY GRADE: Teacher Schedule WORK CALENDAR: 187 Days +8 FUNDING SOURCE: Dyslexia Allotment DEPARTMENT: Special Education DATE REVISED: February 2026 PRIMARY PURPOSE: The dyslexia specialist will assist the coordinator in the overall improvement of the district dyslexia program by coaching and mentoring dyslexia interventionists and specialists, developing and supporting the instructional program and delivery of services, and ensuring full compliance of local, state, and federal mandates. Qualifications Minimum Education/Certification: <ul><li> Bachelor’s Degree</li><li> Valid Texas Teaching Certificate</li><li> Certified Academic Language Therapist or Licensed Dyslexia Therapist (preferred)</li><li> Special Education Certification </li></ul>Special Knowledge/Skills <ul><li> Knowledge of dyslexia and related disorders</li><li> Knowledge of dyslexia therapy programs and best practices for remediation of reading </li></ul>difficulties/disabilities <ul><li> Knowledge of local, state, and federal guidelines and mandates for dyslexia and related </li></ul>disorders <ul><li> Experience administering and interpreting assessments used for dyslexia evaluation</li><li> Excellent communication and interpersonal skills</li><li> Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks within a complex and compliance driven </li></ul>service department Minimum Experience <ul><li> Three (3) years of successful classroom experience</li><li> Three (3) years of experience as a dyslexia interventionist/specialist/therapist </li></ul>Major Responsibilities And Duties <ul><li> Serve as instructional coach and mentor to dyslexia interventionists and specialists.</li><li> Visit dyslexia interventionists and specialists regularly to observe instruction and review </li></ul>compliance records, and provide timely feedback on observations of strengths and opportunities for growth. <ul><li> Lead development and implementation of district-adopted dyslexia curriculum(s).</li><li> Assist with planning and leading the district dyslexia leadership team and department </li></ul>meetings. <ul><li> Support with the selection of instructional materials/resources and the selection of </li></ul>intervention and remediation techniques/programs. <ul><li> Lead and develop professional development opportunities for dyslexia interventionists, </li></ul>classroom teachers, and other educators within the district. <ul><li> Attend regional professional development opportunities and leadership meetings to stay </li></ul>abreast of compliance updates and learn new information and ideas to improve services offered in the district. <ul><li> Participate in data analysis discussions with the department leadership team to identify </li></ul>additional areas of focus to improve student outcomes. <ul><li> Work collaboratively with campus administration teams as needed to address concerns, </li></ul>support campus interventionists, and ensure compliance with state and federal mandates. <ul><li> Work collaboratively with the dyslexia evaluation team to ensure alignment of evaluations </li></ul>and services. <ul><li> Work collaboratively within the department and with other district departments as needed.</li><li> Support with operational management and logistics within the department (scheduling of </li></ul>services, 504/ARD meetings, curriculum design and inventory management, compliance records, etc). <ul><li> Assist with dyslexia evaluations (as needed to ensure compliance with timelines).</li><li> Other duties as assigned. </li></ul>Supervisory Responsibilities None Working Conditions Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Must maintain emotional control and exercise reasoning and problem-solving skills while under stress. Must demonstrate ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written). Should be able to interpret procedures and analyze data for decision-making. Frequent in-district and occasional in-state or national travel. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours.
