Role Summary:

As a Senior Software Engineer, I (Architect Release), you will serve as a technical leader responsible for application architecture governance, cloud strategy, release engineering, and deployment operations. You will evaluate and guide application designs, recommend scalable infrastructure solutions, drive automation initiatives, and help ensure the successful delivery of business-critical applications. This role offers the opportunity to influence enterprise technology decisions while partnering with cross-functional teams to advance Staples' cloud transformation strategy. 

 

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Lead architecture reviews, deployment planning, and production readiness assessments for strategic initiatives.
  • Evaluate applications and determine optimal deployment models across Azure, hybrid, and on-premises environments.
  • Establish and enforce release governance standards, deployment processes, and environment management practices.
  • Design and implement CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, and Infrastructure-as-Code solutions.
  • Partner with Engineering, Security, Infrastructure, Product, and Architecture teams to deliver scalable technology solutions.
  • Serve as the final technical approval point for production deployments and release readiness activities.
  • Monitor platform performance and proactively identify opportunities to improve reliability, resiliency, security, and operational efficiency.
  • Drive cloud modernization initiatives and recommend emerging technologies that accelerate delivery and improve platform capabilities.
  • Develop standards, documentation, and operational processes that support governance and long-term platform stability.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to engineering teams while influencing enterprise-wide technology decisions.

What's Needed - Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 7+ years of experience in software engineering, cloud engineering, infrastructure engineering, DevOps, release engineering, or related technical disciplines.
  • 3+ years of experience developing Java or C# web and API-based applications within a team environment.
  • Experience leading complex technical initiatives, deployment activities, architecture reviews, and enterprise-scale projects.
  • Experience evaluating cloud, hybrid, and on-premises deployment strategies.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, release engineering, deployment automation, and Infrastructure-as-Code methodologies.
  • Experience supporting cloud infrastructure, security, monitoring, and resiliency solutions.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to resolve complex application and infrastructure issues.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 

 

What's Needed - Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Azure, AWS, DevOps, or other relevant cloud certifications.
  • Experience leading cloud migration, modernization, or digital transformation initiatives.
  • Experience with Kubernetes and containerization technologies.
  • Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform, Bicep, or CloudFormation.
  • Experience with enterprise architecture governance and release management frameworks.
  • Proven experience mentoring engineers and leading technical teams.
  • Experience supporting highly available, mission-critical applications in complex enterprise environments.

The salary range represents the expected compensation for this role at the time of posting. The specific base pay may be influenced by a variety of factors to include the candidate's experience, skill set, education, geography, business considerations, and internal equity.  In addition to base pay, this role may be eligible for bonuses, or other forms of variable compensation.
