Job Summary and Responsibilities
Job Duties:1. Performs and reports waived, moderate-complexity, and high-complexity laboratory testing onpatient specimens in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures to ensure accurate and timelyresults.2. Correlates clinical results, identifies patterns of bias, and promptly notifies appropriate caregivers ofcritical values within established turnaround times.3. Ensures proper operation of major automated laboratory equipment by performing requiredmaintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting, including coordinating with instrument vendors fortechnical support or repairs.4. Performs and documents all required calibration and quality control procedures to ensure testingremains within established performance parameters.5. Completes assigned proficiency testing and reviews results with laboratory leadership to maintaincompliance and testing accuracy.6. Assists in the evaluation, validation, and documentation of new laboratory procedures andequipment to support implementation of updated testing technologies.7. Participates in continuing education, teaching, and training activities to maintain and enhancetechnical skills and support the development of students and coworkers, and monitors laboratorysupply inventory, including assisting with ordering and stocking materials.
Job Requirements
Education Requirements:Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or closely related.The employer will accept a foreign equivalent degree if it is in the same field.Experience Requirements:24 months in the job offered, Medical Technologist, Medical Technologist I (Generalist), or closelyrelated.
Special skills requirements:1. Experience working in different sections of the Laboratory such as Serology, Blood Bank,Phlebotomy/Information, Hematology, Clinical Chemistry, Clinical Microscopy (Parasitology/Urinalysis), and Microbiology.2. Experience with collecting blood, receiving urine, stool, and other specimens, and processing themwith proper adherence to quality assurance programs of the laboratory.3. Experience with examining secretions and excretions of the human body by various electronic,chemical, microscopic, bacteriologic, hematological, serologic, and immunologic procedures andtechniques, either manual or automated.4. Experience with evaluating and performing corrective actions using Quality Control specimens onvarious clinical instruments.
5. Experience with operating the following laboratory equipment: Mindray BS-380, Mindray BS-230,Mindray BC3000PLUS, Mindray BC 6800, SNIBE Maglumi 800, BioMerieux MiniVidas, and laboratoryinformation systems.6. Must have a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (Generalist) License from the California Department ofPublic Health.7. Must have a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or International Medical Laboratory Scientist (IMLS)Certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
