Director, Software Engineering – Finance Planning Technology

The Director, Software Engineering is responsible for leading the design, delivery, and modernization of Finance Planning Technology solutions that enable enterprise planning, forecasting, investment optimization, and decision-support capabilities. This role oversees the development and evolution of scalable, secure, and resilient platforms that support Finance business processes while ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture, risk, compliance, and operational standards.

The Director will play a key role in executing the Finance technology modernization agenda by driving platform transformation, improving engineering practices, and leveraging modern technologies to enhance business agility, operational efficiency, and user experience. Working in close partnership with Product Management, Finance stakeholders, Architecture, Infrastructure, and peer engineering teams, this leader will translate strategic business priorities into technology roadmaps and high-quality engineering outcomes.

Key priorities include advancing platform modernization, fostering engineering excellence, accelerating adoption of AI-enabled development capabilities, and building innovative solutions that improve planning effectiveness and support enterprise growth. The role will also champion a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, operational resilience, and technical excellence while developing and mentoring high-performing engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead the engineering strategy, roadmap, and delivery for Finance Planning Technology platforms, including Investment Optimization capabilities, ensuring alignment with business priorities and enterprise technology standards.

  2. Drive modernization of planning and forecasting applications by improving platform scalability, resiliency, security, maintainability, and engineering productivity while reducing technical debt.

  3. Partner closely with Product, Architecture, Infrastructure, Finance, and Data Engineering teams to translate business objectives into technology solutions and executable engineering roadmaps.

  4. Oversee the design, development, integration, and support of mission-critical applications, APIs, and services that enable enterprise planning, forecasting, and investment optimization processes.

  5. Establish and promote engineering best practices, including CI/CD, automated testing, code quality, observability, resiliency engineering, and secure software development.

  6. Champion adoption of AI-enabled engineering practices and tools, including GitHub Copilot and emerging developer productivity solutions, to improve software quality, delivery velocity, and developer experience.

  7. Ensure operational excellence across the portfolio through strong governance of platform reliability, performance, security, compliance, disaster recovery, and production support processes.

  8. Lead Agile delivery teams, fostering a product-centric mindset, continuous improvement culture, and predictable execution through effective planning and prioritization.

  9. Build, develop, and retain a high-performing engineering organization through coaching, mentoring, succession planning, and career development while promoting a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous learning.

Leadership Expectations:

  1. Lead multiple engineering teams to successfully deliver strategic initiatives while balancing innovation, operational stability, and business outcomes.

  5. Utilize engineering and operational metrics to improve platform health, delivery effectiveness, developer productivity, and customer satisfaction.

  • Education & Leadership: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field (Master's preferred) with 10+ years of software engineering experience and 5+ years leading engineering teams in a complex enterprise environment.

  • Enterprise Planning Platforms: Experience delivering solutions on IBM Planning Analytics (TM1) or similar enterprise planning platforms such as Anaplan, Pigment, Kyvos, or other FP&A and forecasting solutions. Experience supporting Finance planning processes is preferred.

  • Software Engineering: Strong understanding of modern software engineering principles, including Python, Java, REST APIs, microservices, event-driven architectures, and API-first solution design.

  • Cloud & Platform Engineering: Experience building and operating scalable, cloud-based applications with exposure to SRE practices, observability, platform engineering, reliability, and operational excellence.

  • Engineering Excellence: Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, source control, and software quality practices using tools such as GitHub, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, and related engineering toolchains.

  • Platform Modernization: Demonstrated experience leading application modernization, cloud transformation, and migration initiatives that improve scalability, maintainability, and business agility.

  • Integration & Data Engineering: Experience delivering enterprise integrations, workflow orchestration, APIs, ETL/data pipelines, distributed systems, and solutions leveraging relational and analytical data platforms.

  • AI-Enabled Engineering: Experience leveraging AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot and related technologies to improve engineering productivity and software delivery outcomes.

  • Business & Stakeholder Leadership: Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to partner effectively across Product, Finance, Architecture, Infrastructure, and Technology organizations.
