PCAL Repair Technician

Job Summary

The PCAL Repair Technician is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, verifying performance, and preparing pressure calibration instruments and systems for calibration and return to customers. This position requires strong technical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to diagnose equipment failures to the component and assembly level while maintaining compliance with quality management system requirements and customer expectations.

The technician works closely with calibration technicians, lead technicians, engineering, and customer service teams to ensure timely and accurate completion of repair services while supporting Fluke Business System (FBS) initiatives and continuous improvement activities. 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and repair pressure calibration equipment and associated systems to restore products to specification.
  • Review customer requirements, Oracle notes, service travelers, and repair history to determine appropriate service actions. 
  • Perform functional testing and verification of repaired equipment using approved procedures and standards. 
  • Identify root causes of failures and recommend corrective actions when required.
  • Utilize schematics, service manuals, repair procedures, and technical documentation to complete repairs. 
  • Verify proper operation of accessories, software, and support equipment used in testing and repair activities. 
  • Accurately document repair activities, findings, labor, materials, and service status in Oracle and other business systems. 
  • Track and record parts consumption and repair-related transactions in accordance with company procedures. 
  • Escalate unusual technical issues, product concerns, or quality issues to engineering, metrology, or leadership as appropriate.
  • Support daily scheduling, visual management, Kaizen activities, problem-solving efforts, and other Fluke Business System initiatives. 
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
  • Perform additional laboratory and service support functions as assigned.

 

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong mechanical and technical troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to read and follow technical procedures, service manuals, and schematics. 
  • Basic understanding of electronic and pressure measurement systems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and business software systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted. 
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and commitment to quality.

Preferred

  • Associate degree in Electronics, Instrumentation, Mechanical Technology, or related field.
  • Military PMEL/TMDE training.
  • Experience repairing calibration equipment, pressure controllers, pressure balances, or related instrumentation.
  • Experience working in an ISO 17025 or accredited metrology environment. 
  • Experience with Oracle or similar service management systems.

 

Technical Competencies

The successful technician demonstrates the ability to:

  • Properly handle customer equipment, standards, and test equipment. 
  • Diagnose product failures and verify repair effectiveness.
  • Locate and interpret repair procedures and service documentation. 
  • Read schematics and understand theory of operation. 
  • Identify and source required replacement parts. 
  • Recognize suspect test results and take appropriate corrective action. 
  • Maintain accurate service records and status updates throughout the repair process.  
  • Prepare repaired equipment for calibration and final verification.

 

Working Conditions

  • Laboratory and service center environment.
  • Frequent use of calibration standards, pressure systems, computers, and electronic test equipment.
  • Standing, bending, lifting, and moving customer equipment throughout the workday.
  • Adherence to all company safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
