Staff Software Engineer
Working at the intersection of hardware, software, and molecular science, Carbon is committed to delivering on the promise of 3D printing, enabling commercial customers to go beyond basic prototyping to produce products with real-world applications. With our cutting-edge technology, we are seeing customers innovate and manufacture parts with unmatched reliability, speed, and quality.
You’ll be joining a close-knit team, working with experts in 3D geometry, web technologies, Linux, and everything in between. We’ve had fun team activities where we escape rooms (real and virtual), play games, and cook delicious food. We also have a variety of employee-started communities at Carbon: baking, bootcamp, yoga, gaming, book club, diversity groups, and many more that you can participate in and maybe even start your own!
We are looking for a Platform Back End Engineer that will join a small but incredibly strong team of Back End Engineers.
This role is located in our Sunnyvale, CA office location.
You will:
- Operate & Extend Mission-Critical Ecosystems: You will be a core owner of our Tier-0 services (Fleet Management, Auth, and Core APIs), keeping the foundational services that power our global printer network resilient and highly available while helping shape the design of new high-impact web applications.
- Build Scalable Web Infrastructure: Contribute significantly to the evolution of our front-end infrastructure and cloud platform on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). You will help extend the "Web-to-Edge" bridge and scale our database and API layers to meet the data demands of next-generation additive manufacturing.
- Depth in the React and Three.js Ecosystems: Bring strong expertise in React and modern front-end architecture to complex, data-heavy control systems, applying sophisticated state management and high-performance rendering to real customer-facing surfaces.
- Own Major Initiatives End-to-End: Take full ownership of substantial features and services from design to production. You will influence architectural decisions on the initiatives you lead and help ensure they fit our long-term direction as our systems scale.
- Technical Leadership & Mentorship: Work as a senior technical contributor on a diverse team of engineers and product managers. You will translate customer needs into robust software designs, raise the bar through design reviews and code review, and mentor engineers around you.
You have:
- Expert knowledge in any modern programming languages such as Node, Typescript, C++, golang, python, Java, etc.
- 8+ years of relevant experience
- Expert knowledge in working with large-scale distributed systems and data pipelines.
- Expertise in building and scaling APIs
- Strong communication, debugging, and problem-solving skills.
- Bachelor of Engineering or equivalent or higher degree in computer science and engineering.
You do not need to match every listed expectation to apply for this position. Here at Carbon, we know that diverse perspectives foster the innovation we need to be successful, and we are committed to building a team that encompasses a variety of backgrounds, experiences, and skills.
At Carbon, we look at the person holistically and carefully consider a wide range of factors when determining salary. The compensation bracket for this position is $209,600 - $314,400 (per year).
