Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our SART Program Coordinator RN, you will be responsibel for coordinating the operations of the (SANE) Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner program for our Santa Barbara County facility. Your core administrative leadership will guide the program while you actively participate in the examiner call rotation to support acute adult, adolescent, and pediatric patients within the Emergency Department. Acting as a central liaison and a dedicated patient/victim advocate, you will maintain continuous, empathetic communication with physicians, patients, families, and community support agencies. Everyday, you will deliver high-quality, comprehensive acute patient examinations and precise case management rooted in your scope of licensure and regulatory protocols. You are responsible for the meticulous, timely collection of forensic evidence to hand over to law enforcement personnel for future judicial review. Your direct impact will extend well beyond the exam room as you step into courtroom proceedings to provide expert witness testimony. Your daily efforts will balance specialized clinical assessment with rigorous legal compliance to ensure justice and healing for survivors. To be successful in this role, you will leverage substantial specialized knowledge, clinical judgment, and advanced skills built on biological, physiological, behavioral, and sociological sciences. You must masterfully apply critical thinking skills, seamlessly blending established healthcare standards, community resources, and patient data to make rapid, accurate decisions regarding patient care. Ultimately, your ability to synthesize clinical expertise with deep organizational advocacy will ensure our multidisciplinary trauma response team runs smoothly and effectively.
  • Coordinates SANE program operations and patient care services in accordance with established protocols and regulatory guidelines; participates as needed in the call schedule/rotation for SART patients within normal working hours.
  • Develops and implements operational standards and protocols for compliant program operations; evaluates program metrics/outcomes and recommends performance improvements as appropriate.
  • Reviews all SANE patient charts and related evidential documentation; facilitates slide review with experts from other established sexual assault programs; assures documentation of assessment and forensic examination meet established standards.
  • Collaborate with the District Attorney’s SART Coordinator and Santa Barbara County SART Coalition partners.
  • Coordinates annual report preparation and distribution; may participate in preparing grant proposals and in general fund-raising efforts.
  • Facilitate quarterly SANE meetings and continuing education. Performs medico-legal forensic assessment, screening and evaluation of patients for adolescent, pediatric and adult victims of sexual assault in accordance with established guidelines/protocols; participates in nurse examiner call rotation As back up or as needed within working hours. Site management (technology, IT liaison, supply management, medication management in compliance with state requirements or something)
  • Liason for medical organization needs regarding ongoing education and time of need support for survivors of sexual assaultAssist with recruitment, onboarding, training and competency validation of Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANEs)

Job Requirements

Required

  • Bachelors of Science in Nursing - BSN 
  • Three (3) years of staff nursing work experience that demonstrates attainment of the requisite job knowledge skills/abilities
  • Registered Nurse - CA RN License
  • Basic Life Support - CPR BLS

Preferred

  • Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Adult (SANE-A)
  • Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Pediatric (SANE-P)
