DESCRIPTION:
Join our team at Thermo Fisher Scientific and contribute to critical scientific research and innovation. As a Field Service Engineer III, you'll provide expert installation, maintenance, and repair services for sophisticated analytical and microscopy equipment. Working with advanced technology, you'll deliver outstanding technical support while building strong relationships with customers across research institutions, universities, and industrial facilities. You'll resolve complex issues, conduct preventive maintenance, and train users to ensure optimal system performance. What you will do:
  • Represent Thermo Fisher Scientific in a professional and customer-focused manner while delivering exceptional service to both internal and external customers.
  • Install, commission, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and validate advanced analytical and microscopy instruments at customer sites to ensure optimal system performance and uptime.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, system calibration, and performance verification in accordance with company procedures, quality standards, and customer requirements.
  • Diagnose complex hardware, software, vacuum, and system-level issues using advanced troubleshooting techniques, and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Provide timely on-site and remote technical support, prioritize service activities, and respond efficiently to customer requests to meet service level agreements (SLAs).
  • Deliver operator training and technical guidance to customers, ensuring proper instrument operation, routine maintenance, and best practices for maximizing system performance.
  • Prepare accurate and complete service documentation, including service reports, maintenance records, installation documentation, and regulatory or quality-related protocols.
  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships by understanding customer needs, providing technical consultation, and delivering an outstanding customer experience.
  • Collaborate closely with Technical Support, Applications, Sales, and other cross-functional teams to resolve customer issues and support business objectives.
  • Manage service tools, test equipment, spare parts inventory, and company assets to ensure operational readiness and inventory accuracy.
  • Identify opportunities for service contract renewals, upgrades, and additional solutions, and communicate customer needs to commercial teams.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, quality systems, safety regulations, and applicable industry standards while performing field service activities.
  • Continuously develop technical expertise through product training and knowledge sharing while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives and operational excellence programs.
  • Travel frequently to customer sites to support installations, preventive maintenance, emergency repairs, and other field service activities across the assigned territory.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Advanced Degree plus 3 years of experience, or Bachelor's Degree plus 5 years of experience installing, troubleshooting, repairing and calibrating sophisticated analytical instruments
  • Preferred Fields of Study: Electronics, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, Chemistry or related technical field
  • Ongoing technical training and certifications required
  • Demonstrated expertise with ultra-high vacuum systems, high voltage electronics, and complex electro-mechanical systems
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving abilities for hardware and software issues
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and proven ability to build positive customer relationships
  • Professional working proficiency in English; additional languages beneficial
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documentation, schematics, and engineering drawings
  • Proficiency with Windows operating systems, networking, and standard business software
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel 25-50%
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs work equipment and work in laboratory environments
  • Experience mentoring and training others preferred
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining strong team collaboration
  • Availability to respond to urgent customer needs
  • Must follow all safety protocols and be able to work in cleanroom environments when required
