Legal and Product Engineer (USPTO Examiner Background)

New YorkFullTime$100k–$220kPosted Aug 7, 2026

Are you a patent attorney or agent who spent time as a USPTO examiner and knows firsthand what happens on the other side of the desk? Do you want to help build the product that changes how the patent office itself works, not just the firms filing into it? Do you want real ownership over a brand new frontier at a fast-growing company, instead of another year of incremental work at a firm?

This is your chance to join a rocket ship! 🚀

🏗️ About the role

We are looking for a Legal & Product Engineer with USPTO examiner experience to help us build for the patent office side of the table, as we expand beyond private practice law firms into direct relationships with patent offices themselves.

You'll be joining the most lean, talent-dense, and fast-moving legal team in New York.

You'll be responsible for:

  • Bringing firsthand USPTO examiner experience into product discussions, shaping how Solve builds for the examiner side of the patent process

  • Supporting Solve's push into working directly with global patent offices, including the USPTO and EPO, by lending credibility and hands on domain expertise

  • Helping onboard and support examiner users as Solve's examiner-facing product and contracts come online

  • Partnering closely with Solve's existing patent attorneys to ramp quickly on Solve's workflows and tooling

👤 About you

As a Legal & Product Engineer, you will have extensive experience navigating patent prosecution from both sides of the process, through work as a USPTO examiner and time in private practice.

  • Registered US patent attorney or patent agent, with a technical degree in a field like computer science or electrical engineering

  • Former USPTO patent examiner, having examined applications for at least 1 to 2 years

  • Currently working in private practice or in-house, not a currently active examiner and not someone who has returned to government work

  • 3 to 5+ years of total experience across USPTO examining and private practice combined

  • Comfortable and confident in customer-facing settings, from customer calls to product demos

  • Self-directed with a startup mindset, ready to move faster and take more ownership than typical government or firm work allows

Nice to have:

  • Examining background in software, AI, or electrical art units

  • Comfort using AI tools as part of daily workflow

  • Drafting or prosecution experience in software or AI-adjacent technologies

  • Time at a well-regarded firm

💰 What we offer

  • Competitive base salary depending on skill and experience.

  • Significant equity - we want you to take ownership in Solve Intelligence and share in the success that lies ahead.

  • Full visa sponsorship.

  • Opportunity to work with a super smart and ambitious group of people building something people want.

  • Private medical insurance.

  • Free meals.
