We are looking for a Principal Software Engineering Manager to join our team!
The AI FinOps team in E+D is building Microsoft’s next-generation monetization platform for AI, powering the shift from seat-based licensing to real-time, consumption-based billing. Our team defines how high-value Copilot and agentic experiences translate into scalable revenue, making it a critical, high-visibility effort at the center of M365’s AI-driven growth.
Our team designs, implements, and supports AI monetization models, with a long-term vision of becoming the unified licensing, usage, and ROI platform for all of the Copilot AI ecosystem.
We are looking for someone with a proven track record in delivering high-scale, low-latency services. This role operates at the nexus of AI FinOps Platform, Core Services, Modern Commerce, and Data Engineering, requiring both deep technical expertise and strong leadership capabilities. Success in this position demands the ability to collaborate seamlessly across multiple partner teams in a fast-paced, high-expectation environment.

Responsibilities
Manage a team of engineers to deliver high-quality code that is maintainable, performant, testable and used in cross products.
Conduct efficient design and architectural discussions, ensuring that solutions are secure, reliable and maintainable. Lead and facilitate technical discussions, encouraging contributions from all team members and fostering an inclusive environment where ideas can be shared without judgment.
Collaborate closely with multiple partner teams to ensure seamless integration and delivery of complex projects.
Drive effective project management and delivery within a fast-paced, results-oriented environment.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to C#, Java, C, C++, JavaScript or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with application usage telemetry insights, modern licensing and payment systems is a plus.
- Experience in C# and .Net is a plus.
- Experience in Spark, Python, data engineering and data modelling.
- Proven ability to conduct efficient design and architectural discussions.
- The ability to thrive in a fast-paced, demanding project environment and drive effective discussions and outcomes.

Software Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $142,800 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
