The Section of Speech-Language Pathology at Cleveland Clinic Main Campus is seeking a full-time Speech-Language Pathologist (40 hours per week) to join its acute care hospital team. This position offers the opportunity to work as part of a multidisciplinary team providing state-of-the-art clinical care. Applicants should have a strong clinical interest in the neurological conditions along with expertise in evaluating and treating adults with dysphagia, speech, language, and cognitive disorders, as well as tracheostomy and ventilator dependency. The ideal candidate will independently perform and interpret Modified Barium Swallow Studies. Experience with Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing is preferred. Qualified applicants must hold ASHA's CCC-SLP credential and be eligible for licensure in Ohio. This position cannot accommodate those seeking a Clinical Fellowship or candidates without inpatient hospital experience.

This is a full-time role. A caregiver in this position works 8:00am to 5:00pm.  

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Perform diagnostic speech pathology test procedures and evaluate communication and swallowing function of patients. 
  • Interpret and reports on test results to facilitate medical diagnosis. 
  • Provide counseling and education about communication and diagnosis to patients and their families. 
  • Determine therapeutic plan, including need for therapy, frequency of treatment, focus for intervention, prognosis and duration of therapy. 
  • Select assistive speech devices to improve patient communication. 
  • Perform re-evaluation to determine progress after therapy. 
  • Provide observations about hearing and other behavior to help determine the need for other services. 
  • Maintain records of all services. 
  • Communicate results and recommendations for improving communicative function to referral sources and outside agencies such schools and employers. 
  • Maintain speech pathology equipment and materials. 
  • Assist with planning, budget, service or project development, fee setting, purchase of new equipment or materials. 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Master’s Degree in Speech/Language Pathology 
  • Current Speech-Language Pathology License (SP) from the State Board of Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology 
  • Certification of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA) 
  • Completion of a nine-month clinical fellowship year 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Manual dexterity and visual acuity sufficient to perform tests.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
