  • Work on advanced launcher technologies delivering critical operational capability to the Australian Army.
  • Join a high-performing engineering team driving both capability sustainment and future product development.

Your mission starts here at Raytheon Australia! Raytheon Australia is a trusted capability partner delivering some of the most complex, innovative and meaningful engineering projects for the Australian Defence Force.

Right now, we are experiencing exciting growth and are seeking a motivated and experienced Systems Engineer to join the Short Range Ground Based Air Defence (SRGBAD) Support Program based at the Centre for Joint Integration facility in Mawson Lakes.

The SRGBAD Support Program sustains and enhances the Australian Army's NASAMS capability, ensuring it remains operationally effective against current and emerging threats. The program is entering an exciting phase of capability evolution, combining ongoing sustainment activities with the development and integration of launcher capabilities and technologies.

As a Launcher Systems Engineer, you will support the operation, sustainment and continuous improvement of NASAMS launcher systems while contributing to the development of future launcher enhancements and new product initiatives. Working closely with Defence, international partners, suppliers and multidisciplinary engineering teams, you will help deliver technical solutions that enhance capability, improve reliability and ensure operational readiness.

This role offers the opportunity to work across the full systems engineering lifecycle, from concept development and requirements analysis through to integration, verification, fielding and ongoing support.

The successful candidate will be capable of independently delivering technical work packages, leading engineering investigations and contributing to capability development activities within a complex Defence environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the ongoing sustainment and operation of NASAMS launcher systems across the SRGBAD capability.
  • Conduct technical investigations, fault analysis and root-cause assessments to resolve complex launcher-related issues.
  • Develop and implement engineering changes, capability upgrades and product improvements for launcher systems.
  • Support the development of new launcher capabilities from concept definition through design, integration and verification.
  • Develop and maintain systems engineering artefacts including requirements, interface specifications, design documentation and verification evidence.
  • Contribute to systems integration activities involving launcher subsystems, vehicle interfaces, communications systems and mission system components.
  • Support verification, validation and acceptance testing of launcher upgrades and new capability developments.
  • Review technical publications, engineering data packages and supplier documentation to support capability management activities.
  • Contribute to reliability, maintainability and obsolescence management initiatives to ensure long-term capability sustainability.
  • Support technical risk assessments, safety activities and engineering assurance processes.
  • Engage with Defence stakeholders, international partners and suppliers to develop and deliver effective engineering solutions.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers as required.
  • Undertake travel within Australia and internationally to support project and customer requirements.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years' relevant engineering experience in Defence, aerospace, military vehicle, missile, launcher, weapons, or complex systems environments.
  • Demonstrated experience applying Systems Engineering principles across the system lifecycle.
  • Experience supporting complex electro-mechanical systems, vehicle-mounted systems, weapons systems or mission-critical platforms.
  • Experience developing engineering design solutions and implementing engineering change activities.
  • Knowledge of integration, verification and validation processes for complex systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct technical investigations and develop practical engineering solutions.
  • Understanding of configuration management, technical governance and engineering assurance processes.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience working within a Defence environment is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of NASAMS, ground-based air defence systems, missile systems, launcher technologies or military vehicle integration is highly regarded.
  • Experience working with international suppliers and engineering partners is advantageous.

Security Requirements

  • Successful candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 1 (NV1) Security Clearance.
