The Work:
The Senior SAP APO Consultant is responsible for leading the assessment, design, and delivery of supply chain planning transformations involving SAP Advanced Planning & Optimization (APO), with a primary focus on migrating clients from legacy APO modules to SAP Integrated Business Planning (IBP) and S/4HANA embedded planning capabilities. This role serves as a functional lead and trusted advisor on complex supply chain planning programs, guiding clients through the full migration lifecycle — from APO landscape assessment and module mapping through IBP configuration, data migration, and cutover — ahead of SAP's APO end-of-mainstream-maintenance deadline.

Responsibilities:

APO Assessment & Migration Strategy

  • Lead current-state assessment of client APO landscapes across active modules: DP, SNP, PPDS, GATP/AATP, CTM, and TLB

  • Develop APO-to-IBP/S/4HANA module mapping and migration roadmap, including sequencing dependencies and transition risks

  • Advise clients on SAP's APO end-of-support timeline and the urgency and sequencing implications for their planning transformation

  • Identify custom enhancements, user exits, and BAdIs in the APO landscape that require remediation or functional equivalents in IBP

  • Support business case development for APO migration, including total cost of ownership and planning capability improvement scenarios

SAP APO Configuration & Functional Expertise

  • Lead design and configuration across core APO modules: Demand Planning (DP) – statistical forecasting, consensus demand planning, lifecycle planning, promotion planning, and CIF master data integration, Supply Network Planning (SNP) – heuristics, optimizer, capable-to-match (CTM), deployment, and transport load builder (TLB), Production Planning & Detailed Scheduling (PPDS) – production planning runs, detailed scheduling, sequencing, pegging, and capacity leveling, Global Available-to-Promise (GATP/AATP) – product availability check, rules-based ATP, backorder processing, and allocation management, Core Interface (CIF) – master data and transaction data integration between ECC/S/4HANA and APO liveCache

  • Troubleshoot liveCache issues, CIF queues, and planning run failures in existing APO environments

SAP IBP Implementation

  • Lead end-to-end SAP IBP implementation or migration, including: IBP for Demand – statistical forecasting, ML-based forecasting, consensus planning, and segmentation, IBP for Supply – constrained supply planning, multi-echelon inventory optimization (MEIO), and deployment, IBP for Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) – integrated business planning cycles, financial integration, and scenario planning, IBP for Response & Supply – order-based planning, supply allocation, and AATP replacement, IBP Control Tower – exception management, alert monitoring, and supply chain visibility

  • Configure IBP planning areas, key figures, planning operators, and time profiles

  • Design SAP Integration Suite connectivity between IBP and S/4HANA for master data, demand signals, and supply plan publication

  • Advise on SAP Datasphere integration for external data ingestion and advanced analytics in the planning process

S/4HANA Embedded Planning

  • Lead design of S/4HANA MRP Live and production planning capabilities replacing PPDS where applicable

  • Configure demand-driven MRP (DDMRP) and MRP-based detailed scheduling in S/4HANA

  • Define the boundary between S/4HANA embedded planning and IBP for clients adopting a hybrid planning architecture

Program Delivery

  • Lead APO and IBP workstreams through full SAP Activate lifecycle: Discover, Prepare, Explore, Realize, Deploy, Run

  • Facilitate fit-to-standard and migration design workshops with Supply Chain, Demand Planning, S&OP, and Operations stakeholders

  • Author and maintain key design documents: BBPs, FSDs, migration mapping specs, configuration workbooks, and test scripts

  • Lead data migration activities for planning master data: locations, products, resources, PPMs/PTFs, and historical demand

  • Lead SIT, UAT, and cutover planning for APO decommission and IBP go-live

  • Coordinate with PP, MM, SD, and FI/CO functional teams on planning integration design and testing

Travel may be required for this role.  The amount of travel will vary from 0 to 100% depending on business need and client requirements

Here's What You Need:

  • Minimum of 7 years of SAP Supply Chain Planning experience with hands-on expertise across one or more APO modules (DP, SNP, PPDS, GATP)

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with full lifecycle APO implementations or equivalent deep support/optimization engagements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with SAP IBP implementations or APO-to-IBP migrations in at least one module

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with CIF architecture, liveCache, and APO-ECC/S/4HANA integration

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience leading fit-to-standard workshops and authoring functional design documents

  • Prior experience working for a large Consulting/Advisory firm (Big 4, global SI, or boutique SAP consulting environment)

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent (12 years) work experience (If an, Associate’s Degree with 6 years of work experience)

Bonus Points if:

  • You have experience across multiple APO modules (DP + SNP + PPDS or GATP)

  • You have experience with IBP for Response & Supply (AATP replacement) and IBP Control Tower

  • You have experience with SAP Datasphere, SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC), or BTP for planning analytics

  • You have experience with DDMRP and MRP Live in S/4HANA embedded planning
