We are seeking an experienced Senior QA Engineer to join the Proximity Tactics (PXT) team, a strategic low-latency electronic trading platform supporting direct market access, venue connectivity, market data processing, and intelligent order routing.
The successful candidate will be responsible for validating the quality, reliability, and performance of the platform across venue connectivity, market data handling, order routing, and execution workflows. In addition to hands-on testing, this individual will design and build automated regression test suites and testing frameworks that support continuous delivery of new functionality.
This is a highly technical role requiring strong knowledge of North American electronic trading infrastructure, exchange connectivity, market data, and automated testing practices.
Key Responsibilities
Functional Testing
- Develop and execute test plans for:
- Exchange and venue connectivity
- Market data ingestion and normalization
- Order routing and execution workflows
- FIX and native exchange protocols
- Risk controls and order lifecycle management
- Validate correct behavior across:
- New orders
- Modifications and cancellations
- Partial and full fills
- Rejects and recovery scenarios
- Create comprehensive test scenarios covering normal, edge-case, and failure conditions.
- Participate in feature reviews and provide early feedback on testability and quality risks.
Market Data & Routing Validation
- Verify accuracy and integrity of real-time market data processing.
- Validate routing decisions and execution behavior against defined business logic.
- Test smart routing and market-data-driven execution strategies.
- Analyze exchange and market data logs to identify discrepancies and defects.
Automation & Regression Testing
- Design and maintain automated regression testing frameworks.
- Develop automated test scripts for:
- Venue certification testing
- Market data replay testing
- Order routing validation
- End-to-end trading workflows
- Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines.
- Build tooling to compare expected versus actual trading system behavior.
- Continuously improve test coverage and reduce manual testing effort.
Performance & Reliability Testing
- Execute performance, stress, and resiliency testing.
- Validate system behavior under high messaging rates and market volatility.
- Analyze latency-sensitive workflows and identify functional bottlenecks.
- Support production readiness and release validation activities.
Collaboration
- Work closely with:
- Developers
- Product owners
- Trading technology teams
- Infrastructure teams
- Exchange connectivity specialists
- Participate in defect triage and root-cause analysis.
- Contribute to overall testing strategy and quality processes.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in:
- Computer Science
- Software Engineering
- Computer Engineering
- Mathematics
- Finance with strong technical background
- Or equivalent practical experience
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of QA and testing experience in electronic trading systems.
- Experience testing:
- Equity trading platforms
- Smart order routers (SOR)
- Direct Market Access (DMA) systems
- Exchange connectivity platforms
- Market data systems
Domain Knowledge
Strong understanding of:
- US and Canadian equity market structure
- Exchange trading venues including:
- NASDAQ
- NYSE
- Cboe
- TSX
- Alpha
- Other major North American venues
- Order lifecycle and execution workflows
- Market data concepts:
- SIP feeds
- Direct feeds
- Level 1 / Level 2 data
- NBBO
- Market microstructure and order types
Technical Skills
Experience with:
- Automated test framework development
- Python scripting
- Linux environments
- Test automation and regression testing
- Network and protocol troubleshooting
- CI/CD environments
Knowledge of:
- FIX protocol
- Exchange-native protocols (e.g., OUCH)
- TCP/IP networking
- SQL and database validation
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with low-latency trading systems.
- Experience certifying exchange connectivity.
- Experience testing market data feed handlers.
- Familiarity with packet capture and network-analysis tools.
- Experience working in co-location or proximity-hosted trading environments.
- Exposure to performance benchmarking and latency measurement.
- Knowledge of C++-based trading platforms.
