**Your Impact**
Cisco is seeking an Engineering Lab IT and Automation Engineer to support our San Jose Signal Integrity, Power Integrity, and Mechanical Engineering teams by planning, deploying, and sustaining the compute, storage, networking, and automation infrastructure required for engineering applications, lab systems, and remote instrumentation. In this role, you will help optimize infrastructure investments, improve lab productivity, increase automation, and provide the technical foundation needed to support continued engineering growth.
This role is critical to ensuring that engineering teams have reliable, scalable, and efficient infrastructure to support simulation, analysis, lab operations, and data-intensive workflows. By combining deep infrastructure and systems knowledge with hands-on automation to improve productivity, optimize resource utilization, and enable scalable lab operations, the ideal candidate will collaborate closely with engineering teams, tool owners, IT, and finance to assess requirements, recommend solutions, and implement long-term infrastructure strategies.
Compute and Storage Infrastructure
+ Forecast compute and data storage requirements based on engineering applications, user headcount, and growth, while evaluating optimal Windows/Linux environments and defining storage solutions that address capacity, performance, cost, security, backup, and archival requirements.
+ Analyze application-specific compute requirements for engineering tools such as Ansys Electronics Desktop HFSS, SiWave, CREO, ABAQUS, Cadence Sigrity, Clarity, APD, Orbit, and related platforms.
+ Assess infrastructure options across local server farms, cloud resources, and data center environments, providing cost, performance, and schedule analysis to support planning and implementation decisions.
Procurement, Deployment and Support
+ Support procurement of hardware, software, and infrastructure required to implement compute and storage solutions, and lead or support infrastructure implementation activities including server deployment, rack integration, software installation, and lab infrastructure readiness.
+ Partner with finance to develop budget forecasts, cost estimates, and deployment schedules.
+ Provide ongoing lifecycle support and maintenance planning for deployed lab IT systems and engineering infrastructure.
Lab IT & Network Integration
+ Connect lab and mechanical devices to the network and ensure operational readiness for engineering use.
+ Support stable and secure integration of engineering workstations, graphics systems, and lab devices into the local network environment.
+ Enable remote access and connectivity for lab systems and engineering resources as needed.
Automation & Monitoring
+ Design, implement, and support automation workflows that improve operational efficiency, reduces manual effort, and increase process accuracy, and develop scripts and automation solutions for data collection, sorting, transfer, and workflow execution.
+ Create and manage monitoring tools to track application usage, compute consumption, storage utilization, and overall system performance.
+ Use infrastructure and application usage data to improve forecasting accuracy and support future planning.
Lab Instrument Integration
+ Manage the integration of remote lab tools and instrumentation, including scanning electron microscopes, vector network analyzers, digital microscopes, CNC machine tools, 3D printers, and graphics and engineering applications/workstations.
+ Automate data movement from lab instruments to centralized network-attached storage and downstream processing environments.
+ Purchase, install, upgrade and maintain instrument support software applications including MPI Corp. Qalibria, Formfactor WinCal, and Keysight PLTS across all related instruments.
**Minimum Qualifications**
+ Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical field and 7+ years of relevant experience, or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical field and 4+ years of relevant experience, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical field and 1+ years of related experience, or equivalent work experience.
+ Experience supporting engineering compute, storage, or lab infrastructure in a technical environment with working knowledge of Windows and Linux systems.
+ Experience evaluating or supporting infrastructure across cloud, on-premises server, and data center environments.
+ Experience with scripting and automation for system administration, infrastructure management, or workflow optimization.
+ Familiarity with network-connected lab systems, remote instrumentation, or engineering workstation environments.
**Preferred Qualifications**
+ Problem-solving and cross-functional collaboration skills.
+ Experience supporting semiconductor, packaging, SI/PI, or mechanical engineering environments.
+ Familiarity with engineering tools such as HFSS, SiWave, CREO, ABAQUS, Cadence Sigrity, Clarity, APD, and Orbit.
+ Experience with infrastructure monitoring, reporting, and usage analytics.
+ Experience with rack server deployment, NAS environments, and engineering data storage solutions.
+ Understanding of data archival, backup, and secure storage practices for engineering workflows.
+ Experience integrating and supporting remote lab instrumentation.

The starting salary range posted for this position is $165,000.00 to $241,400.00 and reflects the projected salary range for new hires in this position in U.S. and/or Canada locations, not including incentive compensation*, equity, or benefits.
Individual pay is determined by the candidate's hiring location, market conditions, job-related skillset, experience, qualifications, education, certifications, and/or training. The full salary range for certain locations is listed below. For locations not listed below, the recruiter can share more details about compensation for the role in your location during the hiring process.

U.S. employees are eligible for paid time away as described below, subject to Cisco’s policies:
+ 10 paid holidays per full calendar year, plus 1 floating holiday for non-exempt employees
+ 1 paid day off for employee’s birthday, paid year-end holiday shutdown, and 4 paid days off for personal wellness determined by Cisco
+ Non-exempt employees** receive 16 days of paid vacation time per full calendar year, accrued at rate of 4.92 hours per pay period for full-time employees
+ Exempt employees participate in Cisco’s flexible vacation time off program, which has no defined limit on how much vacation time eligible employees may use (subject to availability and some business limitations)
+ 80 hours of sick time off provided on hire date and each January 1st thereafter, and up to 80 hours of unused sick time carried forward from one calendar year to the next
+ Additional paid time away may be requested to deal with critical or emergency issues for family members
+ Optional 10 paid days per full calendar year to volunteer
For non-sales roles, employees are also eligible to earn annual bonuses subject to Cisco’s policies.
Employees on sales plans earn performance-based incentive pay on top of their base salary, which is split between quota and non-quota components, subject to the applicable Cisco plan. For quota-based incentive pay, Cisco typically pays as follows:
+ .75% of incentive target for each 1% of revenue attainment up to 50% of quota;
+ 1.5% of incentive target for each 1% of attainment between 50% and 75%;
+ 1% of incentive target for each 1% of attainment between 75% and 100%; and
+ Once performance exceeds 100% attainment, incentive rates are at or above 1% for each 1% of attainment with no cap on incentive compensation.
For non-quota-based sales performance elements such as strategic sales objectives, Cisco may pay 0% up to 125% of target. Cisco sales plans do not have a minimum threshold of performance for sales incentive compensation to be paid.

New York City Metro Area:
$165,000.00 - $277,600.00
Non-Metro New York state & Washington state:
$146,700.00 - $247,000.00
* For quota-based sales roles on Cisco’s sales plan, the ranges provided in this posting include base pay and sales target incentive compensation combined.
** Employees in Illinois, whether exempt or non-exempt, will participate in a unique time off program to meet local requirements.
