DESCRIPTION:
Join us at Thermo Fisher Scientific and contribute to global scientific discovery. As an Engineer I, Software, you'll develop solutions that help our customers make the world healthier, cleaner, and safer. You'll contribute to the design, development, and maintenance of sophisticated software applications spanning laboratory instruments, cloud platforms, and enterprise systems. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams including scientists, engineers, and business stakeholders to deliver high-quality software that advances scientific research and laboratory efficiency.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Information Technology, or a related technical field.
  • No prior professional software development experience required; internships, academic projects, or personal projects are a plus.
  • Strong programming skills in one or more languages such as Java, Python, C#, or JavaScript.
  • Knowledge of object-oriented programming (OOP), design patterns, algorithms, and data structures.
  • Understanding of web technologies including HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, and modern frontend frameworks.
  • Familiarity with microservices architecture, RESTful APIs, and event-driven application development.
  • Basic understanding of relational and NoSQL databases, SQL, and data modeling concepts.
  • Knowledge of data processing, ETL/ELT pipelines, and data integration concepts is a plus.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including cloud-native services.
  • Understanding of containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Basic knowledge of version control systems (Git), CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps practices.
  • Understanding of Agile software development methodologies and collaborative development practices.
  • Exposure to Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and Generative AI concepts through coursework, certifications, or projects.
  • Familiarity with AI development frameworks and libraries such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn, LangChain, LlamaIndex, or similar technologies is desirable.
  • Basic understanding of Large Language Models (LLMs), prompt engineering, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), vector databases, embeddings, and AI agents is an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of data analytics and visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or Python visualization libraries is a plus.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills with the ability to work on data-driven solutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly document technical specifications, AI workflows, and software processes.
  • Experience with automated testing, test-driven development (TDD), and software quality practices is desirable.
  • Demonstrated curiosity, continuous learning mindset, and enthusiasm for emerging technologies, especially AI, data engineering, and intelligent automation.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment while contributing innovative ideas and technical solutions.
