Position Summary
The Assistant Grocery Manager supports the Grocery Manager in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Grocery Department. This position is responsible for maintaining exceptional store conditions, achieving sales and profitability goals, ensuring product availability, managing inventory, and providing outstanding customer service. The Assistant Grocery Manager helps lead and develop department employees while promoting a safe, clean, and efficient work environment.
Key Responsibilities Department Operations- Assist in managing daily Grocery Department operations to achieve sales, labor, and profitability goals.
- Ensure shelves, displays, and promotional areas are fully stocked, properly merchandised, and maintained according to company standards.
- Monitor product movement and sales trends to maximize inventory effectiveness.
- Support the execution of seasonal, promotional, and store merchandising initiatives.
- Maintain department conditions that promote a positive shopping experience.
- Assist with ordering, receiving, stocking, and inventory control processes.
- Monitor inventory levels and communicate product needs to minimize out-of-stocks and excess inventory.
- Help manage shrink through proper rotation, handling, and inventory practices.
- Verify product quality, code dates, and pricing accuracy throughout the department.
- Provide daily direction, coaching, and support to department associates.
- Assist with training new employees on company policies, safety standards, and operational procedures.
- Promote teamwork, accountability, and excellent customer service.
- Support employee development by providing feedback and encouraging performance improvement.
- Deliver and model exceptional customer service at all times.
- Resolve customer concerns promptly and professionally.
- Ensure associates engage customers in a friendly, helpful, and courteous manner.

- Support achievement of department sales, gross profit, labor, and shrink goals.
- Assist in monitoring department performance metrics and identifying opportunities for improvement.
- Help control expenses through effective scheduling, productivity, and inventory management.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous grocery retail experience.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull products consistent with job requirements.
- Prior supervisory or leadership experience in a grocery retail environment.
- Knowledge of grocery merchandising, inventory management, and department operations.
