Job Description
Gains alignment with cross-functional leaders and executives for the strategic direction of the organization to better identify business and product needs, and identifies solutions to address product and/or business problems. Drives research strategies tend-to-end applied research: surveying state of the art, preparing high-quality datasets, running POCs/experiments, and designing, training, and optimizing ML/AI models and solution architectures. Forecasts and negotiates resource needs and secures resources to enable operations support and ensure successful delivery of solutions and drive the technical strategy. Participates in the research community by publishing and presenting research findings and serving as a keynote speaker.Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
Solution Identification:
–Gains alignment with cross-functional leaders and executives for the strategic direction of the organization to better identify and address strategic, critical business and product needs related to the use of machine learning (ML) and/or artificial intelligence (AI).
–Leads other leaders to set quality standards and ensure the execution of the end-to-end science strategy to address multiple product and/or business problems.
–Drives the design and implementation of research and development strategies for innovative products and services across the organization.
Solution Development – Applied Research:
–Drives the design and implementation of standards for the development and piloting of research proofs-of-concept (POCs) or research experiments to demonstrate the feasibility of proposed solutions, gather supporting evidence, and secure support and funding for applied research.
–Drives the design of group-wide standards for the selection and preparation of datasets for applied research. Establishes processes to ensure that high quality, comprehensive datasets are used across the organization.
–Drives research strategies to identify new theories, tools, and methodologies to transfer and apply state-of-the-art technologies into products and services or make advancements in the field.
Solution Development:
–Defines and refines group-wide standards for the design, development, and optimization of ML and AI technologies, such as model training/fine-tuning and computation optimizations.
–Drives the use of best practices for the architecture of ML and AI solutions, such as data, model, training, and evaluation across the group.
Solution Development – Articulating Research Insights:
–Drives the use of best practices across the group to identify meaningful insights from data and metadata sources from analysis and experiments.
–Advises on the interpretation and communication of insights and findings throughout the organization.
–Leads the creation of patents, white papers, or other technical documentation related to applied research outcomes.
Solution Delivery – Coding and Documentation:
–Develops group processes for the development of efficient, bug-free code from scratch, as well as the maintenance and organization of the existing codebase.
–Forms and communicates best practices for version control, code review, and code delivery/deployment.
–Reviews and refines professional documentation for technical processes (experimentation, data collection and analyses, model building).
–Advocates for the use of additional tools to improve productivity.
Solution Delivery:
–Forecasts and negotiates resource needs and secures resources to enable operations support and ensure successful delivery of solutions and drive the technical strategy.
–Leverages strategic partnerships to remove barriers to the successful and timely delivery of solutions and integration of services.
–Forms cross-functional partnerships to facilitate the deployment of solutions into production environments.
Building Research Capability – Research Excellence:
–Promotes a culture of excellence related to applied research technology areas across the group.
–Builds domain expertise across the group and drives the use of best practices in applied research across the group.
Building Research Capability – Research Community Presence:
–Leads the publication, presentation, and internal and external review (e.g., serves as an academic journal editor) of high-impact research findings and papers in top-tier conferences, research and industry outlets, etc.
–Serves as a keynote speaker in top-tier conferences or panels.
–Establishes collaboration with internal/external research labs.

–Sets a strategic direction for collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment of expectations and strategic objectives.
–Drives a culture of teamwork, empowering teams to build and maintain partnerships with business leaders, stakeholders, and/or customers to contribute to organizational success.
–Promotes a culture of transparency and inclusivity where all voices are valued and respected.
Problem Solving:
–Develops and implements strategies for specialized, advanced problem-solving efforts across the organization, serving as an escalation point for highly complex operational and/or technical issues.
–Oversees teams leveraging innovative techniques to address significant ambiguous issues, identify root causes, and prevent recurrence, reviewing solutions as needed.
Continuous Learning:
–Champions continuous learning to maintain cutting-edge skills and influence organizational best practices.
–Inspires teams to build and maintain expertise in relevant areas by proactively monitoring emerging trends, technologies, and industry standards to help position the organization as an industry leader.
–Contributes to the organization’s strategy for learning and development, influencing leadership to foster learning opportunities for the team.

–Drives a culture of continuous improvement that sets a standard for efficient and effective processes, protocols, and workflows across the organization.

–Drives and ensures consistent application of performance management strategies, systems, processes, and guidelines across the organization.
–Creates an organizational culture of career development that encourages proactively identifying and pursuing career development opportunities and guiding leaders to support their team's growth.
–Drives consistency in the application of talent development procedures and socializes performance expectations across the organization.
–Partners with HR and executive leadership to envision and execute a talent management strategy, balancing budget and talent resources.

US: Hiring Range in USD from: $190,000 to $414,400 per annum. May be eligible for bonus, equity, and compensation deferral.

Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.

8. Paid time off: Flexible Vacation is provided to all eligible employees assigned to a salaried (non-overtime eligible) position. For employees working at least 35 hours per week, the vacation accrual rate is 13 days annually for the first three years of employment and 18 days annually for subsequent years of employment. Vacation accrual is prorated for employees working between 20 and 34 hours per week. Employees working fewer than 20 hours per week are not eligible for vacation.
