Spotify is looking for a Contractor Music Editor to join our ANZ Editorial team, reporting to the Editorial

As a Contractor Music Editor you'll help influence how millions of listeners in Australia and New Zealand experience music on Spotify. Behind the scenes, this role will work with world-leading technology and product teams to sharpen our recommendations and deliver the best possible listening experience for a broad and diverse

What You'll Do

    • Curate engaging playlists and editorial experiences across genres for ANZ audiences,

    • balancing data insight with cultural instinct and human judgement.

    • Analyse user behaviour, streaming data and performance metrics to optimise programming and surface audience-growth opportunities.

    • Create compelling written commentary, video content and on-camera editorial moments that bring Spotify's editorial voice to life on platform and across social channels.

    • Identify emerging music trends, scenes and culturally significant moments — ensuring Spotify's local programming is timely and authoritative.

    • Champion local artists and identify export opportunities across Spotify's global editorial

    • network.

    • Work cross functionally with other departments within Spotify (including marketing and

    • comms) to realise local market goals and editorial priorities.

    • Contribute to the development of creative editorial formats that deepen user engagement and trust.

Who You Are

    • A minimum of 3+ years of experience in music programming, curation, culture journalism or a related role across digital, radio, music, TV or similar platforms.

    • Broad genre expertise with deep knowledge across Dance, Electronic and Hip-Hop looked on particularly favourably.

    • Strong understanding of Australian and New Zealand music culture, with the ability to read and forecast cultural trends globally.

    • Confident and engaging on camera, with the ability to talk about music with authority and authenticity for a broad audience.

    • Excellent written skills — able to craft sharp, compelling commentary on music and culture.

    • Deep understanding of digital content, social media and digital culture, with proven experience in engaging with young audiences online.

    • Proven experience using AI tools to drive process efficiency and enhance workflows.

    • Comfortable using data and analytics to inform editorial decisions and measure performance.

    • A keen eye for design and visual storytelling — understanding what makes compelling artwork and playlist imagery.

    • Detail-oriented, organised and able to manage a high volume of programming.

    • Collaborative, curious and energised by working at the intersection of music, culture and Technology.

Work Arrangements

  • This contract is based in Sydney, Australia.
  • While there is flexibility to work remotely, attendance at the Sydney office is expected approximately 3 days per week for in-person collaboration
