EquipmentShare is seeking a Director of Tooling to lead the strategic growth, operational performance, and financial success of our national Tooling Solutions and Industrial Supplies businesses. This executive leader will oversee all aspects of the industrial tooling rental operations as well as our Industrial Supplies and Consumables business. This role combines strategic leadership, financial management, inventory optimization, vendor management, and operational excellence to ensure profitable growth while delivering an exceptional customer experience.

The ideal candidate is a highly analytical business leader with strong financial acumen, deep operational expertise, and a passion for developing high-performing teams.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the national strategy for EquipmentShare's Tooling Solutions and Industrial Supplies businesses to drive revenue growth, profitability, operational excellence, and market expansion.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of leaders across multiple markets nationwide.
  • Oversee the performance of the industrial tooling rental business, including power tools, pneumatic tools, hand tools, specialty tools, tool tracking technology, testing, repair, certification, and communication solutions.
  • Direct the Industrial Supplies and Consumables business, including PPE, safety equipment, abrasives, hardware, gloves, jobsite supplies, and related construction products.
  • Develop and execute growth strategies to expand EquipmentShare's Tooling Solutions and Industrial Supplies footprint, identifying new market opportunities, increasing market share, and driving sustainable revenue growth across existing and emerging regions.
  • Own the overall financial performance of the business, including P&L responsibility, budgeting, forecasting, pricing strategy, capital planning, and profitability analysis.
  • Develop inventory strategies that optimize stock levels, maximize product availability, improve inventory turns, reduce carrying costs, and minimize excess or obsolete inventory.
  • Analyze inventory performance, demand forecasting, utilization trends, purchasing patterns, and operational metrics to support data-driven business decisions.
  • Monitor and improve key performance indicators including tool utilization, inventory accuracy, fill rates, shrinkage, service levels, margin performance, and return on investment.
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with manufacturers and suppliers while evaluating vendor performance related to pricing, quality, service, availability, and delivery performance.
  • Negotiate supplier agreements and collaborate with vendors on new product introductions, assortment optimization, and cost-saving initiatives.
  • Standardize operational processes and best practices across all Tooling Solutions branches to ensure consistency, efficiency, compliance, and exceptional customer service.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Sales, Operations, Procurement, Finance, Marketing, Technology, and Branch Leadership to align business objectives and execute strategic initiatives.
  • Leverage business intelligence tools, reporting, and analytics to identify trends, evaluate business performance, and present recommendations to executive leadership.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, expand product offerings, increase customer value, and support the continued growth of EquipmentShare's Tooling Solutions and Industrial Supplies businesses.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, continuous improvement, and customer focus while ensuring safe and compliant operations across all locations.
  • Travel nationally (50–75%) to support regional teams, strengthen customer and vendor relationships, evaluate branch performance, and drive operational consistency across the organization.

Skills & Qualifications 

  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in tooling, industrial distribution, equipment rental, construction supply, manufacturing, or a related industry.
  • Multi-site leadership experience managing regional or national operations.
  • Experience leading and developing high-performing teams.
  • Strong financial literacy with demonstrated P&L management experience.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate data into business decisions.
  • Experience with inventory optimization, forecasting, purchasing, and vendor management.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and executive leadership skills.
  • Ability to travel 50–75% nationally.
