Analyst - Control Management

International Risk and Control Management partners with the business to manage risk, respond to evolving regulatory requirements, and enable sustainable growth by supporting new products, capabilities, and strategic business initiatives. Working closely with stakeholders across the enterprise, the organization strengthens the first line of defense while maintaining a robust and effective control environment.
Supporting both the International Issuing and International Acquiring businesses across 27+ markets, International Risk and Control Management plays a critical role in helping the business achieve its strategic objectives through a strong first line risk and control framework. In addition, the organization leads the enterprise-wide International Financial Crimes Transformation program and the International First Line Privacy function, further strengthening enterprise controls for financial crimes, privacy, and information protection.
This role will report to the Manager, Risk and Control Management, based in Tokyo, Japan. The main responsibility of this position is to support the overall implementation and execution of business compliance, risk control and governance activities/programs for the Japan market, in particular the Third-Party Lifecycle Management (TLM) program.
This position will be a trusted advisor supporting the business on managing risk – with focus on third party risk, ensuring strong control focus is integrated into day-to-day operations. Coverage of the roles and responsibilities include the following:
- Facilitate and support the execution of the Third-Party Lifecycle Management (TLM) program for the business, inclusive of pre-contract and post-contract processes, through close collaboration with International Card Services (ICS) business’s Third-Party Relationship Managers (TRM), Central IOE team, TLM team, and Third-Party security/information security teams
- For pre-contract, support on the intake and on-boarding review process through partnering with business to complete risk assessment questionnaire and other risk/mitigating controls documentation
- For post-contract, support on the various control and monitoring activities by TRMs, including third party security assessments, on-going monitoring, and timely response and closure of any gaps identified from the assessments and/or monitoring
- Effectively engage and leverage Central IOE team for relevant subject matter expertise and program management, inclusive of TLM program, to ensure streamlined efforts and efficiencies
- Support robust AXP Audit program management, driving strong business engagement, and prompt accurate responses to validate findings, ensuring any Management Action Plans (MAPs) have achievable and sustainable action plans
Support the Issues Management process by ensuring appropriate action plans are in place, progress is made against milestones, and controls are enhanced to prevent issue reoccurrence
Support the education and awareness of employees regarding operational risk management and internal control matters
Develop and maintain strong working relationships with the business teams and critical stakeholders in the market and across the organization
Guide and support business in identifying process deficiencies, controls weaknesses and provide recommendations on solutions to best mitigate them
- Experience in Third Party Management/Risk, Information Security Management, Operational Risk, and/or Compliance, ideally in more than one of these disciplines.
- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills including collaborating and influencing abilities with proven ability to operate successfully across matrix organizations and without direct authority
- Exceptional communication skills and demonstrated experience effectively across all levels
- Ability to build relationships, influence decisions, and partner with stakeholders to deliver on shared objectives
- Strong project and process management skills; Proven ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously as well as frequent ad-hoc requests
- An open and growth mindset with nimble learning agility to identify and drive new thinking
- Fluency in English and Japanese
In-depth knowledge of Japan market business and processes preferred
