Job Overview

The Automation Manager is responsible for leading and coordinating the maintenance, troubleshooting, programming, and continuous improvement of automated manufacturing systems. This position supervises automation technicians and controls personnel while ensuring equipment reliability, safety, productivity, and compliance with company standards. The supervisor works closely with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, Quality, and IT teams to optimize automation systems and support plant performance objectives.

A Day In The Life

Supervise, coach, and develop automation technicians and controls personnel. 

Schedule work assignments and prioritize daily maintenance activities. 

Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing training. 

Ensure compliance with company policies, safety regulations, and industry standards. 

Lead departmental meetings and communicate technical priorities effectively. 

Oversee troubleshooting and repair of PLCs, HMIs, robotics, drives, servos, instrumentation, and industrial networks. 

Support and maintain automation platforms including Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Schneider, or equivalent systems. 

Ensure reliable operation of SCADA and manufacturing control systems. 

Coordinate system upgrades, backups, and disaster recovery plans. 

Manage control system documentation, electrical drawings, and software revisions. 

Develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance programs for automation equipment. 

Analyze downtime events and implement corrective actions to improve reliability. 

Lead root cause failure investigations and continuous improvement initiatives. 

Monitor equipment performance metrics and recommend system enhancements. 

Support capital improvement projects and equipment installations. 

Manage automation-related projects from planning through implementation. 

Coordinate contractors, integrators, and equipment vendors. 

Develop project schedules and monitor budgets. 

Assist with equipment commissioning, validation, and start-up activities. 

Ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget. 

 

What will help you thrive in this role?

  • Bachelors degree in Automation, Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, Industrial Technology, or equivalent experience. 

  • 5+ years of industrial automation, controls, or maintenance experience. 

  • Strong knowledge of PLC programming and troubleshooting. 

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical documentation.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple priorities simultaneously and meet critical deadlines
