Senior Environment and Sustainability Advisor

The Opportunity | Te kōwhiringa:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Environment & Sustainability Advisor to join our Transport & Infrastructure New Zealand team. Based in Auckland, this role supports a diverse portfolio of construction projects, road maintenance contracts, quarries, asphalt plants, depots and other operational sites across the Central and Northern North Island.

This is a varied and influential role where you'll partner with operational leaders, project teams, clients and regulators to manage environmental risk, drive continual improvement and support the delivery of sustainable infrastructure outcomes.

As a trusted environmental advisor, you will provide practical, solution-focused support to operational teams while helping the business manage environmental risk, meet regulatory obligations and deliver sustainable infrastructure outcomes.

You will also be responsible for:

• Partner with operational teams to provide environmental and sustainability advice across projects, maintenance contracts and operational sites. 
• Lead environmental assurance activities, audits and ISO 14001 management system requirements.  
• Manage environmental approvals, permits and resource consents and support ongoing compliance obligations. 
• Develop environmental management plans and other environmental documentation. 
• Support environmental incident investigations, regulatory engagement and continuous improvement initiatives. 
• Contribute environmental and sustainability expertise to bids, tenders and other work-winning activities. 
• Deliver environmental training, awareness programmes and capability uplift initiatives. 
• Build strong relationships with clients, regulators and operational leaders to achieve positive environmental outcomes.

You'll bring strong technical environmental knowledge combined with excellent stakeholder management skills and a practical approach to solving problems.

You'll ideally have:

• A tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Engineering, Planning, Sustainability or a related discipline.
• At least five years' experience in a similar environmental role.
• A strong understanding of New Zealand environmental legislation and regulatory processes.
• Experience obtaining and managing environmental approvals, permits and resource consents.
• Experience developing environmental management plans and compliance documentation.
• Environmental auditing or assurance experience.
• Strong communication, influencing and relationship management skills.
• A full New Zealand driver's licence.

Experience in infrastructure, construction, transport, civil engineering, utilities or industrial operations will be highly regarded.
