Job Description:

TD is seeking a transformational technology leader to build and scale its Emerging Technology & Automation function at a pivotal moment in the industry's evolution. Reporting into senior leadership within Protect, this role will shape how AI, automation, and emerging technologies are responsibly adopted across the enterprise, balancing innovation with robust governance, cybersecurity, and risk management. The successful candidate will influence enterprise strategy, engage with executive leadership, regulators, and industry partners, and leave a lasting impact on how TD harnesses technology to create competitive advantage.

Accountabilities

  • Define and execute the enterprise strategy, vision, and multi-year roadmap for Emerging Technology and Automation and Artificial Intelligence capabilities, ensuring alignment with Protect Platform priorities, technology strategy, risk appetite, and business objectives.
  • Own the governance, operating model, and strategic direction of the Emerging Technology and Automation function, including oversight of operational effectiveness, resource allocation, delivery performance, and sustainable capability growth.
  • Establish and lead enterprise frameworks for identifying, assessing, prioritizing, and onboarding Emerging Technology and automation use cases, ensuring initiatives are aligned to business value, security requirements, and regulatory expectations.
  • Drive strategic alignment across lines of business, technology, security, risk, and control functions to establish integrated priorities, investment decisions, and measurable business outcomes.
  • Own the Technology and Cyber Control Library governance framework, including control lifecycle management, rationalization, standardization, and alignment to enterprise policies, regulatory requirements, and risk management objectives.
  • Lead the modernization, implementation, and automation strategy for business controls testing, establishing prioritization frameworks, transformation roadmaps, and scalable testing capabilities that improve efficiency, consistency, and control effectiveness across the enterprise.
  • Establish enterprise KPI, KRI, and maturity frameworks to measure operational performance, control effectiveness, adoption, automation outcomes, and strategic progress, providing actionable insights to executive leadership.
  • Develop and oversee Target Operating Models, governance structures, interaction models, accountability frameworks, and RASCIs to support effective execution and long-term sustainability of Emerging Technology and AI capabilities.
  • Serve as the executive sponsor and primary point of accountability for internal audits, regulatory examinations, and independent reviews related to Emerging Technology, automation, AI and associated governance and controls programs.
  • Oversee the transition of emerging capabilities into business-as-usual ownership models, ensuring operational readiness, governance maturity, risk management integration, and successful adoption across the organization.
  • Represent Protect and TD within industry forums, academic partnerships, regulatory discussions, and strategic industry engagements to identify emerging trends, risks, and innovation opportunities.
  • Provide executive leadership and talent stewardship for a team of high-performing technology risk, governance, and emerging technology professionals, developing future leaders and fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and execution excellence.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, providing strategic guidance on Emerging Technology and Automation
  • Deliver executive communications, reporting, and recommendations to senior leadership and governance committees
  • Champion enterprise adoption of Emerging Technology, Automation and AI capabilities while ensuring that innovation is implemented through a disciplined governance, controls, and risk management framework.

Key Metrics

  • Delivery against multi-year Emerging Technology roadmap milestones.
  • Reduction in control duplication and improved reuse of testing outputs across programs.
  • Increased automation of business controls testing and improved cycle time / efficiency of control assessment activities.
  • Improved control library completeness, quality, ownership clarity and alignment to risk appetite, standards and regulatory expectations.
  • KPI / KRI performance for operational effectiveness, control efficacy, adoption and value realization.

Key Qualifications & Capabilities

  • University and/or post-graduate degree.
  • 15+ years of progressive experience in technology, cyber security, technology risk, controls governance, AI / Emerging Technology, engineering, operations or enterprise transformation, including senior leadership roles in complex matrix environments.
  • Proven experience defining and executing enterprise strategy and roadmaps for technology, AI, Emerging Technology or controls modernization capabilities.
  • Deep expertise in cyber and technology controls, control testing, governance, risk management, audit, regulatory engagement and control library lifecycle management
  • Demonstrated experience leading automation, process modernization and operating model transformation across enterprise-scale functions.
  • Strong ability to translate complex technology and risk concepts into executive-level decisions, prioritized roadmaps and measurable outcomes.
  • Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders across business, technology, risk, audit, legal, compliance, regulators and external partners.
  • Proven people leadership with experience building, developing and sustaining high-performing, multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Collaborative, strategic and outcomes-oriented leader with strong judgment, credibility and ability to operate in a dynamic regulatory and expense management environment.
