A Glimpse of the job

The IT Professional II performs advanced troubleshooting, analysis, and problem-solving for unit-level support in multiple technical fields. This role will support the College of Arts & Sciences.

Essential Duties and Tasks:

Service and Support

  • Provides technical oversight and training for conducting research of problems and the formulation of recommended solutions for customers. 

  • Resolves hardware and software problems with vendor technical support. 

  • Repairs hardware problems. 

  • Installs, configures, and maintains both critical and non-critical software and hardware. 

  • Provides primary administration responsibility for software products or systems. 

  • Prepares specifications for purchases of hardware and software upgrades. 

  • Assists with production control, disaster recovery, networking, computer operations, or other operating systems.

Leadership and Collaboration

  • Serves as a resource for internal and external customers. 

  • Prepares specifications for purchases of hardware and software upgrades. 

  • Directs the efforts of one or more individuals. 

Documentation

  • Documents problems, troubleshooting, and solutions.

Professional Development

  • Participate in training and professional development sessions.

Salary range: $52,000 - $55,000 annually.

Please note: This is a fully onsite role in College Station, TX.

Required Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

  • Three years of related experience in IT.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience delivering high-touch customer support in a higher education environment, managing client expectations, and building strong working relationships with faculty, researchers, and staff within a college or academic setting.

  • Experience supporting and administering endpoints (e.g., Active Directory, Jamf Pro) in a multi-platform environment (Windows, Linux & macOS).

  • Knowledge of State of Texas IT regulations, software/hardware procurement compliance, and accessibility standards (e.g., DIR guidelines, EIR accessibility).

  • Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining specialized scientific or research software applications.

  • Knowledge of fundamental networking concepts.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

  • Must be able to work in a collaborative team environment.

  • Excellent written communication.

  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

  • Customer service experience.

  • Experience configuring, administering, and/or troubleshooting.

Physical Requirements: 

  • Ability to lift and/or move medium weight objects.

Other Requirements and Factors:

  • Ability to maintain the security and integrity of critical infrastructure, which may include communications systems, computer networks and systems, cybersecurity systems, electrical grid, hazardous waste treatment system or water treatment system.

  • This position is security sensitive.

  • This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TAMU policies, regulations, rules and procedures.

  • All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and University safety requirements.

  • This position allows alternate work location per TAMU guidelines.

  • May be required to provide on-call support on nights and weekends as needed.

  • This role may require working outside of standard office hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to support the demands of technology services and ensure the seamless operation of essential systems.
