Amgen’s Global Development Operations (GDO) organization delivers high quality data to advance our pipeline through strong customer partnership and operational excellence in study execution. The Manager, Strategic Planning & Operations (SP&O) will partner with GDO functional leadership, the GDO SP&O organization, and cross-functional teams to support operational execution, organizational processes, and business activities that enable effective functioning of the assigned GDO pillar.
Key responsibilities for this position will include the following:
Partner with GDO Functional AVP and LT to support execution of organizational strategy and priorities.
Manage and implement business processes and process improvements across the assigned GDO functional pillar.
Develop strong collaborative relationships with internal partners to support and proactively respond to business needs, including progress of functional goals and process improvement initiatives.
Partner with the GDO Strategic Planning & Operations team
to align cross-functional processes and support operational improvement initiatives across Global Development Operations.
Collaborate with the GDO Functional AVP to support initiatives, including development and management of organizational communication and staff engagement plans.
Establish expense management approach to support planning, tracking, and reporting. Work closely with SPO Head and Finance partners to support appropriate budgeting processes.
Ensure adherence to corporate training and compliance requirements.
Provide staff operations support, including headcount management, open requisition tracking, and reconciliations to ensure effective resource allocation aligned with organizational priorities.
Manage organizational meetings including All-Staff meetings, Leadership Team meetings and cross-functional collaborations.
Be an active member of the GDO SP&O network and help deliver execution of operational plans, including resource management, communication and engagement plans for respective function, as appropriate.
Contribute to cross-functional initiatives and special projects supporting organizational and operational priorities
Support the Functional AVP and GDO SP&O Head in implementation of organizational plans, engagement and communication activities, business operations and executive dashboards
Drive resolution of issues within the functional pillar; partner and communicate with SP&O network as needed.
Coordinate Leadership Team meetings to support organizational objectives.
Lead or contribute to cross-departmental and cross-functional initiatives and process improvement opportunities.
Partner with Operational Excellence to support process rollout.

Basic Qualifications:
Master’s degree and 8-13 years of experience in life sciences or medically related field, including biopharmaceutical clinical research experience (clinical research obtained working on clinical trials in a biotech, pharmaceutical or CRO company, or other relevant clinical setting)
Preferred Qualifications:
Project management certification is preferred.
Budget and project management experience preferred.
Pharma/Biotech industry knowledge with focus on R&D.
Experience with project management tools and processes (e.g., MS Project, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, MS Teams, SharePoint).
Understanding of clinical trial execution processes and operations.
Strong computer literacy, including word processing, presentation, and spreadsheet
Ability to interface effectively with peers and leadership.
Ability to navigate within a team-oriented and matrixed environment.
Quick learner who is proactive and demonstrates initiative.
Results-oriented and goal-driven.
Ability to organize, interpret, and communicate information effectively.
Work experience in life sciences or biopharmaceutical industry, preferably in clinical development.
Project management and project planning experience managing program results, budgets, and timelines.
Experience writing and presenting to senior executive audiences.
