Expected salary range of $105,300 to $117,000, varies based on experience, along with comprehensive benefits package that includes bonus and 401(k).

Responsibilities

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

The Energy Trading Compliance Analyst will be responsible for supporting compliance activities related to energy trading, ensuring adherence to applicable federal, state, and local regulations. The role involves monitoring trading and communication activities, implementing compliance programs, and providing analysis to mitigate regulatory risks. This position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, programming expertise, and a deep understanding of energy markets and regulatory requirements.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

1. Monitoring and Reporting:• Monitor energy trading activities to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies.• Generate reports and dashboards to track compliance performance and identify potential non-compliance risks.• Analyze trading data for patterns or behaviors that may indicate potential violations.

 

2. Trading Compliance:• Support adherence to FERC, CFTC, ERCOT, CAISO, PJM and other relevant regulatory frameworks.• Assist in preparing responses to regulatory inquiries, audits, and investigations.• Ensure compliance with internal policies, including position limits, trading authorizations, and market conduct guidelines.

 

3. Policy and Procedure Development:• Help design, update, and implement compliance policies and procedures for energy trading operations.• Assist in providing input on the development of training programs to promote compliance awareness among trading teams.

 

4. Risk Assessment and Mitigation:• Conduct compliance risk assessments related to energy trading activities.• Proactively identify areas of vulnerability and recommend mitigation strategies to reduce regulatory risks.

 

5. Stakeholder Support:• Collaborate with traders, schedulers, risk managers, and legal teams to address compliance-related issues.• Assist as a resource to trading desks by providing guidance on compliance matters.

 

6. Incident Investigation:• Assist in the investigation of potential compliance violations, including trade surveillance alerts.• Document findings and recommend corrective actions to prevent future violations.

 

7. Training and Education:• Assist in developing and delivering compliance training programs for trading and support staff.• Stay updated on evolving regulations and communicate changes to relevant stakeholders.

 

8. Programming and Data Analysis:• Utilize programming skills to develop automated tools for monitoring, reporting, and data analysis.• Create scripts and algorithms to streamline compliance processes and analyze trading data efficiently.• Work with large datasets using tools like C#, Python, R, SQL, or other programming languages to identify compliance trends and risks.• Leverage data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) to present insights and support decision-making.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Finance, Law, Economics, Computer Science, or a related field.• 5+ years of experience in energy trading compliance, regulatory compliance, or a related field.• Experience with energy markets (e.g., CAISO, ERCOT, PJM, ISO-NE) and relevant regulatory agencies (e.g., FERC, CFTC).

• Strong programming skills in VBA, C#, Python, R, SQL, or similar languages.• Familiarity with database management systems and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).• Solid understanding of energy trading products, including futures, swaps, physical power, and natural gas.• Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex trading data and identify risks.• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain regulatory concepts to non-experts.
