Senior Platform Software Engineer
Software Ecosystem Management (SEM) is a new OCI initiative being built from the ground up to create a trusted view of Oracle’s software ecosystem. SEM processes large volumes of software metadata from multiple upstream systems, normalizes it into a consistent model, and helps teams understand ownership, lifecycle state, and dependency relationships across services.
What we are looking for
- 4+ years of experience in distributed service engineering or a related software development role
- Strong development experience in Java or another object-oriented language
- Experience building or operating distributed systems and APIs at scale
- Familiarity with databases, data processing, and production-grade backend services
- Experience debugging across service boundaries and improving reliability and performance
- Comfort working in a large enterprise environment with ambiguous, evolving requirements
This role is for an engineer who wants to work on a v1 platform with real scale, real ambiguity, and real impact. The work requires building reliable, scalable services that can grow with Oracle’s software estate and support teams across OCI. This is a chance to influence the foundation of a new system, not just extend an existing one. The team values engineers who take ownership, move quickly, and build durable solutions in a complex enterprise environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the design, implementation, and operation of well-defined components within the SEM platform.
- Build scalable backend services, APIs, and data-processing workflows for software metadata from multiple upstream systems.
- Translate evolving requirements into simple, maintainable designs while making sound trade-offs between delivery speed and long-term durability.
- Develop data models and normalization logic that support ownership, lifecycle, and dependency analysis across OCI services.
- Debug issues across service and data boundaries, identify root causes, and deliver reliable fixes.
- Improve service reliability, performance, and scalability through testing, observability, automation, and capacity planning.
- Participate in design reviews and code reviews, and contribute to engineering standards for a new platform.
- Work closely with product, architecture, and partner teams to define contracts, resolve integration issues, and deliver end-to-end capabilities.
- Operate the services you build, respond to production issues, and use operational data to drive continuous improvement.
