Job Description
Summary of duties:
Looking for Staff Engineer that has working knowledge within (IEC 60601-1) along with some of their
collateral/particulars. The Staff engineer should be senior enough to demonstrate working knowledge
within the standards identified above. The Staff engineer will also be required to support other engineers
on their projects, sales staff, and customers as needed. Project scoping and quoting will be part of the
requirements and helping build the Austin product safety business. The Staff engineer should be able to
work independently with minimal help/guidance on a variety of products to the requirements of U.S.,
Canadian and other international product safety standards; writing reports; and communicating with
clients.

Tasks/Responsibilities:
• Require standard knowledge needed in the base standards (IEC 62368-1 & IEC 61010-1, IEC
60601-1) along with the collaterals.
• Able to quote as needed to support management for product safety standards.
• The Staff Engineer should be comfortable to take on new standards as the business dictates.
(Proper time will be given.)
• Test products in accordance with standards and requirements. Core tests include, but are not
limited to power input, leakage current, dielectric, temperature, stability, mechanical hazards,
flammability, abnormal and single fault, IP testing and others as applicable per project and
compliance requirements.
• Staff engineer will be involved in quality aspect of maintaining our accreditation by supporting
Department Manager as needed.
• Staff engineer willing to take on special assignments to ensure department is well maintained.
Proper time will be given.
• Staff engineer will play vital role in preparing & supporting Department Manager for internal and
external audits as needed.
• Perform preliminary design reviews (PDR) both on and off site.
• Support sales in project communication with customers.
a. Attend product reviews to provide technical support.
b. Answer technical questions.
• Review technical reports test plans & test data sheets.
• Be able to manage multiple projects.
• Can make calls for technical decisions & provide engineering rationales when needed for other
engineers.
• As the Staff Engineer, you are the technical expert and team will relay on you for technical advice
as needed.
Qualifications
• Two to Four-year college degree – Engineering discipline or equivalent work experience.
• 8 to 10 years of product safety experience.
• The ability to travel as business needs dictate up to 30%.
• Able to go locally to client sites for any testing when needed.
• A valid driver's license is required.
Reporting:
This position reports directly to Austin Safety Department manager.
