BAE Systems Inc, Space & Mission Systems (SMS) is a mission-driven aerospace and defense company delivering advanced technologies and solutions in support of national security, space, and defense operations. We are seeking a highly strategic, operationally focused Director of Strategic Growth & Operational Readiness who will report directly to the Vice President of Operations and be an integral part of the Operations Leadership Team. Utilizing both strategic and tactical approaches, this role serves as the primary integration point between Strategic Business Units (SBUs), Strategic Capability Units (SCUs), and Operations to enable the successful execution of enterprise growth initiatives.

The Operations Strategic Capabilities Unit plays a fundamental role in enabling efficient business and program execution – from strategic capital investments, industrial operations and an efficient supply chain, to state-of-the-art manufacturing and test operations and top-notch facilities management.


What You’ll Do:
  • Serve as the primary liaison between Strategic Business Units (SBUs), Strategic Capability Units (SCUs), and Operations to ensure alignment and coordinated execution of enterprise growth initiatives.
  • Lead operational readiness by assessing manufacturing capacity, facilities, supply chain, capital investments, workforce implications, and organizational capabilities required to support future growth.
  • Manage relationships with external consulting partners, coordinating operational assessments, strategic planning activities, and implementation of growth recommendations.
  • Identify execution risks, operational constraints, and cross-functional dependencies, developing mitigation strategies to support successful implementation.
  • Develop executive-level business cases, implementation roadmaps, governance frameworks, and status communications to support executive decision-making.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to execute strategic growth initiatives while ensuring alignment with business objectives, schedules, and investment priorities.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.


On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site three or more days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.


Working Conditions:
  • Work is performed in an office environment, laboratory, cleanroom, or production floor.
Short Term Incentive: Subject to business performance and recommendations of management, this role may be eligible to participate in an incentive compensation plan.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills
  • BS degree or higher in a related field plus 12 or more years related experience.
  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • 12+ years of leadership experience in manufacturing, operations, engineering, program management, strategic planning, or business transformation.
  • Demonstrated success leading complex, cross-functional strategic initiatives involving executive stakeholders.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing expansion, operational growth, capital investment planning, or industrialization initiatives.
  • Excellent business acumen with the ability to translate growth strategies into operational execution plans.
  • Exceptional communication, collaboration, and influence skills with significant experience presenting to executive leadership.

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
  • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt or Master Black Belt certification
  • Degrees in Engineering, Business, Operations Management or Supply Chain; Master's degree


Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $173023 - $294137

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
