Job Summary
ERM is seeking a motivated Environmental & Social Consultant to join our team in Shanghai or Beijing. The successful candidate will support the delivery of projects by owning multiple workstreams and building effective working relationships across teams.
This role focuses on delivering EHS/ESG/E&S due diligence for M&A transactions, including acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, and project finance, with exposure to frameworks such as the Equator Principles and IFC Performance Standards.

Roles & Responsibilities
The successful candidate will support project teams in the delivery of environmental, health, safety, and sustainability consulting projects for corporate and financial sector clients.
Typical responsibilities include:
Conduct environmental, health and safety (EHS) assessments and regulatory compliance reviews for industrial facilities;
Support environmental and social due diligence (ESDD) and EHS due diligence projects for mergers and acquisitions, project finance, corporate transactions, and investment activities;
Review and analyze environmental permits, regulatory requirements, monitoring reports, management system documentation, and other technical information;
Participate in site visits, facility inspections, management interviews, and field assessments;
Conduct regulatory and technical research related to environmental and EHS topics;
Identify key environmental and EHS risks and develop practical recommendations for clients;
Prepare technical reports, presentations, and client deliverables in both English and Chinese;
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across ERM’s local and international offices;
Support business development activities, including proposal preparation and market research when required.
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline;
0-3 years of relevant experience in environmental consulting, environmental compliance, EHS management, environmental assessment, due diligence, or related fields;
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex information and identify key risks and issues;
Demonstrated logical thinking and critical reasoning skills, including the ability to synthesize information from multiple sources and develop structured conclusions;
Strong research, report writing, and communication skills;
High attention to detail and ability to work effectively under tight deadlines;
Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously in a fast-paced consulting environment;
Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required;
Good written and spoken English and Mandarin.
Preferred
Familiarity with environmental regulations, permitting, compliance management, or industrial operations;
Internship or project experience in consulting, manufacturing, chemical, energy, infrastructure, or environmental sectors;
Knowledge of international standards and frameworks such as IFC Performance Standards, Equator Principles, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, or ASTM environmental due diligence standards would be an advantage;
Experience reviewing environmental permits, environmental impact assessments (EIAs), monitoring reports, or EHS management systems is a plus.
