PRIMARY FUNCTION
Responsible for maintaining the integrity of Inventory Accounting balance sheet accounts through timely reconciliations, financial analysis, and month-end close activities related to Inventory, Accounts Payable (AP), Vendor Income, and Roundel. The role is accountable for ensuring accurate financial reporting, identifying and resolving reconciliation differences, strengthening internal controls, and driving process improvements to enhance the overall control environment. The Senior Analyst serves as a subject matter expert (SME) and partners with Headquarters and cross-functional business teams to support accounting governance, process standardization, automation initiatives, and continuous improvement.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintain Financial Integrity
- Perform timely and accurate preparation, review, and certification of Balance Sheet reconciliations for Inventory, Accounts Payable, Vendor Income, Roundel, and other assigned accounts.
- Ensure completeness and accuracy of month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities, including preparation and review of journal entries, accruals, reclasses, and supporting documentation.
- Investigate, analyze, and resolve reconciliation variances by partnering with upstream and downstream business partners to ensure timely resolution.
- Perform detailed analysis of inventory balances, inventory adjustments, inventory reserves, and inventory-related clearing accounts to ensure compliance with accounting policies.
- Review and monitor Accounts Payable and Vendor Income balances, ensuring appropriate accounting treatment, timely reconciliations, and resolution of aged or unusual reconciling items.
- Support Roundel accounting activities through reconciliation of balance sheet accounts, review of accounting transactions, and validation of financial completeness and accuracy.
- Ensure compliance with US GAAP, Target accounting policies, and corporate financial reporting requirements.
- Prepare supporting schedules and account analyses for internal management reporting and external financial reporting requirements.
Internal Controls & Risk Management
- Analyze balance sheet accounts to identify financial risks, unusual trends, and control gaps while recommending corrective actions.
- Maintain a strong SOX-compliant control environment by executing key financial controls and documenting evidence in accordance with corporate policies.
- Identify process control deficiencies and partner with stakeholders to implement sustainable corrective and preventive actions.
- Ensure reconciliation standards, certification timelines, and documentation requirements are consistently met.
Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement
- Prepare reconciliation metrics, aging analysis, and key performance indicators (KPIs) for leadership reporting.
- Identify automation opportunities and process improvements to reduce manual effort, improve reconciliation quality, and enhance operational efficiency.
- Leverage system capabilities and analytical tools to improve reporting accuracy and reconciliation effectiveness.
- Standardize reconciliation templates, documentation, and best practices across the accounting team.
- Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), process documentation, and knowledge repositories.
- Train, mentor, and support team members to strengthen technical accounting knowledge and reconciliation expertise.
Audit & Compliance
- Serve as the primary point of contact for internal, external, and SOX audit requests related to assigned balance sheet accounts.
- Ensure timely preparation of audit schedules, reconciliation support, and documentation while addressing audit inquiries effectively.
- Support remediation of audit observations and implementation of corrective actions where required.
Systems & Process Enhancements
- Assess the accounting impact of system implementations, enhancements, and process changes affecting Inventory Accounting, AP, Vendor Income, and Roundel.
- Partner with Finance, Technology, and business teams during testing, validation, and implementation of system upgrades and automation initiatives.
- Support continuous modernization of reconciliation processes through technology-enabled solutions.
Problem Solving & Stakeholder Management
- Act as the subject matter expert for assigned reconciliation processes and provide guidance to accounting team members.
- Lead discussions with cross-functional stakeholders to resolve complex accounting and reconciliation issues.
- Drive root cause analysis of recurring reconciliation differences and recommend long-term process improvements.
- Support leadership with financial insights, issue resolution, and decision-making through data-driven analysis.
Projects & Transitions
- Lead or participate in cross-functional projects involving process transitions, system implementations, reconciliation optimization, and accounting transformations.
- Support transition of new accounting activities into the team while ensuring strong governance, documentation, and operational readiness.
- Contribute to strategic initiatives focused on strengthening financial controls, automation, and operational excellence.
REPORTING / WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to the Sr Manager. Maintains strong working relationships with Headquarters Finance, Inventory Accounting, Accounts Payable, Vendor Income, Roundel, Financial Reporting, Technology, Internal Audit.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Requirements
- B.Com with CA / ACCA / CPA / CMA / CIMA qualification.
- Minimum 8 years of accounting experience with at least 5 years of General Ledger and Balance Sheet Reconciliation experience.
- Strong experience in Inventory Accounting, Accounts Payable, Vendor Income, Financial Close, and Balance Sheet reconciliations.
- Hands-on experience with ERP systems such as SAP (preferred) and financial reporting tools.
- Strong understanding of US GAAP, SOX controls, and financial reporting requirements.
- Proven experience in reconciliation governance, financial analysis, risk identification, and issue resolution.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with attention to detail.
- Experience leading process improvements, automation initiatives, and cross-functional projects.
- Excellent communication, presentation, stakeholder management, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while consistently meeting critical deadlines.
Desired Requirements
- Experience in Retail Accounting with strong understanding of inventory accounting processes.
- Knowledge of Inventory Accounting, Accounts Payable, Vendor Income, Fixed Assets, Treasury, and Financial Reporting workflows.
- Experience supporting internal and external audits.
- Exposure to automation tools including Power BI, Power Automate, VBA, or similar technologies.
- Experience leading accounting process transitions, standardization, and continuous improvement initiatives.
