Manufacturing Sr. Engineer
Job Purpose
The Senior Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for leading the development, optimization, and execution of manufacturing processes that support the production of high-performance racing vehicles, powertrain components, and prototype hardware. This role serves as the technical leader for manufacturing initiatives, partnering with Design Engineering, Race Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, and Production teams to deliver components that meet aggressive performance, quality, cost, and timing objectives.
Operating in a fast-paced motorsports environment, the Senior Manufacturing Engineer must balance rapid development cycles, prototype manufacturing, low-volume production, and continuous improvement while supporting on-track performance and organizational goals.
Key Accountabilities
Manufacturing Engineering Leadership
- Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of manufacturing processes for race vehicles, power units, chassis, and performance components, ensuring safety, quality, cost, and delivery objectives are achieved.
- Partner with Design Engineering to drive manufacturability, manufacturing readiness, prototype builds, DFM reviews, and seamless transition from development to production.
- Provide technical leadership and hands-on support for fabrication, machining, composites, assembly, and vehicle build activities, including troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and issue resolution.
Tooling, Automation & Operational Excellence
- Lead the specification, design, implementation, and qualification of tooling, fixtures, manufacturing equipment, and advanced manufacturing technologies, including automation opportunities.
- Drive Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, process optimization, and performance metric development to improve efficiency, throughput, and operational excellence while maintaining racing-quality standards.
- Manage manufacturing projects, schedules, budgets, resources, and equipment implementation from concept through deployment.
Quality, Compliance & Team Development
- Ensure manufacturing processes meet quality, reliability, safety, and performance standards through PFMEA, process validation, capability studies, control plans, and audit support.
- Analyze production data, implement corrective actions, and collaborate cross-functionally to improve process control and product conformity.
- Mentor Manufacturing Engineers, Technicians, and Production personnel while serving as a technical expert in manufacturing reviews, executive updates, and strategic planning discussions.
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills
BS degree, technical training, or equivalent experience in Manufacturing Engineering or related field.5+ years of manufacturing engineering experience in motorsports, automotive, aerospace, or advanced manufacturing, with expertise in prototype and low-volume production environments.Strong knowledge of CNC machining, fabrication, assembly processes, manufacturing systems, and ERP/MRP platforms.Proficient in CAD software, manufacturing documentation, engineering drawings, and quality assurance methodologies.Demonstrated success leading process improvements, managing projects, negotiating resources, and meeting aggressive deadlines.Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate across all organizational levels.Working knowledge of engine assembly, manufacturing operations, quality, purchasing, inventory control, customs processes, and internal combustion engine/vehicle systems preferred.Self-motivated team player with strong leadership, adaptability, accountability, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.Advanced PC skills, including Microsoft Office applications and other manufacturing-related software tools.Decisions Expected
Determine, develop, and implement manufacturing processes and production strategies that achieve performance, quality, cost, and delivery objectives for race, test, and development programs.Evaluate the manufacturability of new designs and provide recommendations for tooling, equipment, process enhancements, and design modifications to improve production efficiency, quality, and component performance.Lead the resolution of manufacturing and quality issues through root-cause analysis and implementation of effective corrective actions, reducing risk, improving reliability, and ensuring on-time delivery of critical components and assemblies.Working Conditions
Physical Demands Requirements:
- Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist while working.
- Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees to work on close to the groundwork.
- Crawling.
- Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet to work underneath suspended vehicles/engines/equipment to diagnosis problems and or remove replace parts.
- Standing for sustained periods during work or events.
- Sitting. Extensive travel and long travels.
- Walking. Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks (particularly walking long distances at the track to pit lane and around shop)
- Lifting. Raising objects of 25 pounds from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position.
- Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers while servicing / maintaining a race engine, vehicles and equipment.
- The worker is subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, exposure to high heat and exposure to chemicals.
