Job summary – What to expect: 

To perform a range of varied tasks to ensure customer requirements, production performance targets and quality standards are met and when possible exceeded. Provide leadership, motivation and direction of Operators, and deputise for Team Leader in their absence.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Lead, motivate and support a team to achieve customer requirements, performance targets and quality standards. 

  • Operate equipment and carry out production tasks in line with SOPs and work instructions to meet targets and quality requirements. 

  • Maintain departmental service levels and ensure compliance with company procedures and standards. 

  • Allocate resources and prioritise workloads to achieve shift objectives, meet deadlines and satisfy customer demand. 

  • Analyse data and produce reports to ensure SOX and financial compliance. 

  • Resolve basic machinery faults and perform minor maintenance where required. 

  • Manage the picking and shipping of orders for internal and external customers. 

  • Adhere to health and safety regulations, ensuring safe equipment use and high housekeeping standards. 

  • Deliver training and support the development of team members in line with SOPs. 

  • Provide operational feedback and support to the Team Leader. 

  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives through data collection and analysis. 

  • Ensure workstations are operational, clean and organised to minimise downtime. 

  • Investigate and resolve operational issues, escalating where necessary to maintain service levels. 

  • Support investigations, customer enquiries and cross-departmental requests. 

  • Deputise for the Team Leader when required, maintaining service levels and communicating issues appropriately. 

  • Participate in internal and external audits to ensure ISO/FDA compliance.

  • Promote a positive team culture built on trust, fairness and respect. 

  • Deliver team briefings and provide cover for the Team Leader at meetings as required. 

  • Support other operational areas when business needs require.

Experience & Education:

  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and team management skills. 

  • Self-motivated, able to work independently and within a team with minimal supervision. 

  • Effective workload planning, prioritisation, and multitasking skills. 

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and basic computer applications. 

  • Good knowledge of operational equipment and in-house systems (e.g. Oracle). 

  • Experience contributing to weekly/monthly management reports and company projects. 

  • Good understanding of HR procedures. 

  • Strong attention to detail and communication skills, including delivering team briefings. 

  • Able to communicate effectively with colleagues, departments, and internal/external customers. 

  • Provides regular feedback on workload, equipment, and material issues. 

  • Multi-skilled across operational processes, supporting training in line with SOPs. 

  • Identifies process waste, drives continuous improvement initiatives, and supports change implementation. 

  • Experienced in using manual handling equipment (e.g. order pickers, pallet movers). 

  • Operational, machinery, or manufacturing experience preferred. 

  • Understanding of Lean principles, continuous improvement, and Health & Safety practices. 

  • Good standard of English and Maths.
