Job Description Summary

As a Staff Embedded Software Engineer within the Platform Software Engineering team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the security and integrity of our aviation software platforms. You will provide guidance, mentoring, oversight, and strategic direction to our software team developing high design assurance software for avionics Systems. This position demands a comprehensive understanding of the hardware's characteristics, the real-time functions it must perform, and the capability to architect, develop, implement, and rigorously test the software logic required for these functionalities.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Architects, designs and/or programs/develops a small module or a large component, feature, set of feature, whole feature area or entire embedded software product. Some areas of expertise may include, but is not limited to, networks, operating systems, cybersecurity, databases or applications. May be responsible for the creation of an entire product.

  • Developing specialized knowledge in their discipline. Serves as best practice/quality resource. Has awareness of latest technical developments in own area. Contributes towards strategy and policy development, and ensure delivery within area of responsibility.
  • Has in-depth knowledge of best practices and how own area integrates with others; has working knowledge of competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market
  • Uses judgment to make decisions or solve moderately complex tasks or problems in areas of operational/product management, manufacturing, technology or engineering. Takes new perspective on existing solutions. Uses technical experience and expertise for data analysis to support recommendations. Uses multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own function to arrive at decisions.
  • Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience. May lead small projects with moderate risks and resource requirements. Explains difficult or sensitive information; works to build consensus. Developing persuasion skills required to influence others on topics within field.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field; Master's degree preferred
  • 10+ years of experience in development of embedded software.
  • 5+ years of experience working on DO-178C Software Level A-C programs
  • Proficiency with the CAMEO Enterprise Architect Tool.
  • Proficiency with Model Based Design (MBD) for software architecture, requirements, design, and Test of real-time systems.

Desired Characteristics

  • Experience with ARINC 653 compliant operating systems
  • Familiarity with MISRA C coding standards
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with ability to influence product leadership and technology strategy.
  • Familiarity with computing platforms, network products, real-time operating systems, and multi-core processor architectures.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet cost/schedule targets and effectively interface with multiple disciplines (Hardware/Software/Systems and Test Systems Engineering).

This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information.
