Contract Engineer - Roadmarking

We are seeking a proactive and organised Contract Engineer – Roadmarking to join our team in Invercargill. Working closely with the Roadmarking Manager, you'll play a critical role in supporting the delivery of our Southland Roadmarking operations. This is a hands-on coordination role where you'll be the link between field crews, clients, and management, ensuring work is delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. 

You'll be responsible for leading the Southland based team ensuring our teams have everything they need to successfully deliver work programmes. You'll be someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys solving problems, and can confidently build relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. 

No two days are the same. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing resources, programmes, traffic management requirements, and inventory to support efficient contract delivery. 
  • Conducting site visits, network inspections, and quality, safety, and traffic management audits to ensure compliance and performance standards are met. 
  • Coordinating day-to-day contract administration, reporting, financial documentation, and cost capture processes. 
  • Building strong client and stakeholder relationships through regular communication, meetings, and operational support. 
  • Promoting Downer's Zero Harm culture while driving continuous improvement across safety, quality, productivity, and customer service outcomes.

We're looking for a motivated and detail-oriented individual who can confidently coordinate multiple priorities while maintaining strong working relationships across the business. You will be a natural communicator who enjoys working both in the field and in the office, with a commitment to safety, quality, and customer service. 

What you’ll bring to be successful in this role:

  • A relevant qualification such as NZCE, Diploma, Bachelor of Engineering or substantially completed Engineering Cadetship
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to lead the locally based team 
  • Excellent organisational, time management, and problem-solving skills, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. 
  • Experience coordinating resources, schedules, reporting, and financial administration processes 
  • A strong commitment to health, safety, quality, and environmental best practice
  • A full driver’s licence
