Position Title: General Manager Operations - (FLL)

 

Position Summary

The General Manager supports the Director, FLL Operations and Customer Service in overseeing all aspects of the Operations Department at Fort Lauderdale (FLL). The General Manager works with Airports Leadership to develop and execute the strategy of FLL operations and ensure the day-to-day tactical movement of all departures and arrivals.  This includes ensuring quality, efficiency and consistency in the execution and implementation of operational policies and standards.

 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Oversee the tactical and strategic flight schedule; reviews to ensure flight schedule integrity of daily operations and coordinates the plotting of gate assignments
  • Oversee daily FLL operations, including coordinating and communicating with all departments in regard to operational integrity to improve communication and teamwork to drive efficiencies
  • Act as Incident/Event Manager during irregular operations, and central point of contact for all station related operational decisions in conjunction/coordination with System Operations
  • Partner with Director and Airports leadership team in strategy development including overseeing implementation plan(s)
  • Ensure the FLL Aircraft Ground Reposition (AGR) and FLL Deicing Team staffing, training and readiness is up to date and functional to meet operational needs
  • Develop and coordinate guidelines and service standards pertaining to station operations that are consistent with the airline’s objectives
  • Evaluate operational requirements and establish the Operations infrastructure necessary to achieve team and department goals
  • Oversee systems and procedures, operational controls, and automated systems at FLL.
  • Maintain station operational performance goal monitoring and communications to appropriate departments
  • Identify and capitalize on operating efficiencies within the lobby, gate and Operations Center areas of FLL
  • Proactively review team performance and recommend enhanced operating practices and procedures to improve performance
  • Develop balanced metrics to ensure the performance and prosperity targets for the team are achieved and continuously challenged
  • Recommend changes to curricula and delivery of JetBlue practices and procedures to increase learning and efficiency
  • Take a significant role in the recruitment and development of Crewleaders to support the growth and development of the succession plan for the leadership team at FLL
  • Ensure Operations team readiness for response to significant non-routine operations and emergency events
  • Ability to be an ambassador to the Principles of Leadership
  • Is accountable to senior management for ensuring the safety and security of ground handling operations
  • Ensures that policies and procedures are conducted in accordance with applicable federal regulations and standards.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Minimum Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field; OR demonstrated capability to perform job responsibilities with a High School Diploma/GED and at least four (4) years of previous relevant work experience Six (6) years of airline managerial experience in Customer Service or Operations
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Internet Explorer
  • Ability to maintain a poised demeanor while working in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to engage all people and all types of personalities and agendas
  • Ability to establish credibility and to be decisive
  • Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, logically and coherently
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to be hands on with Crewmembers, Customers, business partners and all other stakeholders
  • Ability to motivate Crewmembers and coach for improved performance where necessary
  • Available for occasional overnight travel (10%)
  • Willing to work variable hours, including weekends and irregular shifts
  • Must pass a ten (10) year background check and pre-employment drug test 
  • Legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located
  • Authorization to work in the US is required, this position is not eligible for visa sponsorship

 

Preferred Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or Aviation
  • Possess the ability to effectively communicate to various levels within the organization
  • Proven leadership ability with an emphasis on people skills
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills

 

Crewmember Expectations

  • Regular attendance and punctuality
  • Potential need to work flexible hours and be available to respond on short-notice
  • Able to maintain a professional appearance
  • When working or traveling on JetBlue flights, and if time permits, all capable crewmembers are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft
  • Must be an appropriate organizational fit for the JetBlue culture, that is, exhibit the JetBlue values of Safety, Caring, Integrity, Passion and Fun
  • Must fulfill safety accountabilities as prescribed by JetBlue’s Safety Management System

  • Identify safety and/ or security concerns, issues, incidents or hazards that should be reported and report them whenever possible and by any means necessary including JetBlue’s confidential reporting systems (Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) or Safety Action Report (SAR))
  • Responsible for adhering to all applicable laws, regulations (FAA, OSHA, DOT, etc.) and Company policies, procedures and risk controls
  • Uphold JetBlue’s safety performance metric goals and understand how they relate to their duties and responsibilities
  • The use of ChatGPT or any other automated tool during the interview process will disqualify a candidate from being considered for the position.
