Settlements Manager (Fix Income & Equities)

The Settlements team is responsible for the timely resolution of settlement exceptions and failed trades that do not settle through Straight Through Processing (STP). The role requires identifying the root cause of settlement issues, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, and ensuring timely market settlement while minimizing operational risk.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee day-to-day settlement activities, ensuring adherence to established controls, procedures, and service level expectations.
  • Manage and support a team, providing guidance, prioritization, and escalation management to ensure effective issue resolution.
  • Perform and oversee cash and securities reconciliations across internal books, records, and external accounts.
  • Monitor and resolve cash and stock breaks, ensuring accurate investigation, documentation, and timely remediation.
  • Support the settlement and post-settlement processing of securities transactions, including mortgage-backed securities and equities.
  • Review and validate funding activities, wire transactions, and position reconciliations to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Identify, investigate, and communicate the root causes of settlement failures to relevant internal and external stakeholders.
  • Approve key operational processes, checklists, and high-risk control activities in accordance with operational risk and governance standards.
  • Drive process improvements, enhance controls, and contribute to the reduction of operational risk and settlement exceptions.
  • Partner with internal business groups, operations teams, and external counterparties to resolve complex issues and maintain service excellence.

Required Qualifications, Skills and Capabilities

  • Experience within Settlements, Securities Operations, Middle Office, Custody Operations, or a related financial services environment.
  • Strong understanding of cash and securities settlement processes, reconciliations, and exception management.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage escalations and perform effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Advanced English communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact effectively with global stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify root causes and implement solutions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Strong client and stakeholder management skills with a focus on service delivery and issue resolution.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Effective collaboration and teamwork skills, with the ability to adapt to changing business needs and priorities.
  • Proven leadership, coaching, and decision-making capabilities.
