Who We Are

The Division of Student Affairs Department of Marketing & Communications is comprised of talented professionals from a variety of creative backgrounds. These staff members support the departments and committees in the division with education and outreach for students, faculty and staff. The Marketing & Communications Team provides supervision and oversight to the Division of Student Affairs marketing and communications efforts and departments.

The Communications Specialist II, under general direction, supports internal and external communications for the Division of Student Affairs. The communications specialist will possess a broad range of marketing & communication skills, including social media content creation, branding, photography, videography and graphic design, among others, to promote division events, programs and services.

Salary: $56,000/annually.

Responsibilities

Graphic Design and Brand Management 

  • Design and assist with the development process for engaging, informative communications projects and marketing campaigns that raise awareness for division events, initiatives and services.

  • Contribute to all graphics and visual elements including layout, typography and photography elements.

  • Support additional design needs for projects including but not limited to brochures, posters, social media, digital signage, web, emails, etc., and utilize products in Adobe Creative Suite, Canva and MARQ.

  • Provide direction of the design and development process for communication projects, including pieces for print, web, social media, web and email marketing.

  • Ensure all materials adhere to university brand guidelines.

  • Adhere to project priorities and deadlines.

Social Media Strategy and Content Creation

  • Create, develop and implement social media communications plans across multiple channels.

  • Research social trends, ideas, competitors’ best-in-class examples, and cutting-edge executions to inform and propose new content.

  • Collaborates with the creative, social, and marketing teams across the division and university to develop engaging content that resonates across platforms like Instagram, Facebook and YouTube.

  • Attend or coordinate coverage for Division of Student Affairs events to ensure content is gathered for social platforms.

  • Define and create branded style templates for new and existing social content for Instagram & Facebook Stories, etc.

  • Gather and analyze impressions and engagement rates of previous posts to determine how to inform social media strategy. 

Visual Media Support

  • Facilitate photo and/or video shoots, as needed.

  • Capture and edit original video content and have a hand in all phases of video production from pre-to-post (filming, editing, color correction, sound design, etc.).

  • Capture photo/video from events throughout the year for social media engagement and use in future marketing initiatives.

Departmental Support

  • Actively participate in Division of Student Affairs Marketing & Communications and Division of Student Affairs meetings, committees, working groups, webinars and related activities.

Qualifications

Required Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Two years of related experience.

Preferred Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, communications, digital media, marketing, visual media.

Preferred Experience:

  • 1-3 years of communications experience, graphic design, social media, visual media creation and branding.

  • 1-3 years of experience working in Adobe Creative Suite.

  • 1-3 years of experience working in social media management systems like Sprout Social or similar.

  • 1-3 years of experience editing videos in apps like CapCut, Canva or the Adobe Creative Suite.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Intermediate proficiency in photography and videography, including editing photos and videos.

  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite and Canva. 

  • Ability to plan and organize effectively, as well as understand and solve complex problems.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate with individuals and groups in both verbal/written forms.

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Competency in WordPress and web.
