We are seeking a strategic and collaborative Finance Senior Manager to serve as the primary finance business partner to the Human Resources (HR) function. This highly visible role provides financial leadership and decision support to the HR Leadership Team, supporting key workforce investments, organizational initiatives, and strategic priorities across the enterprise.
The Senior Manager will lead a team of three finance professionals and be responsible for the planning, forecasting, reporting, and financial analysis activities for the global HR function. This role will leverage advanced analytics, financial modeling, and business insights to influence decision-making, identify risks and opportunities, and drive operational excellence. In addition, this leader will champion continuous improvement initiatives, strengthen finance capabilities within the team, and foster strong partnerships across HR, Corporate Functions, and the broader Finance organization.
This position reports to the Senior Director, Finance – Global Functions.
What You Will Do
Serve as a Strategic Finance Business Partner
- Partner closely with the HR Leadership Team to provide financial leadership, insights, and recommendations that support strategic objectives and workforce investments.
- Influence decision-making through financial analysis, scenario modeling, and business case development.
- Present financial results, forecasts, risks, opportunities, and recommendations to senior leadership in a clear and actionable manner.
- Build strong relationships across HR, Finance, and Global Functions to support effective planning and execution of business priorities.
Lead Financial Planning and Performance Management
- Lead the Annual Operating Plan (AOP), forecasting, and long-range Strategic Plan (STRAP) processes for the HR function.
- Drive monthly and quarterly analysis of operating expenses (OpEx) and capital expenditures (CapEx), identifying key drivers, trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Provide proactive insights into financial and business performance against key metrics and strategic objectives.
- Ensure accurate forecasting, disciplined expense management, and effective resource allocation across the HR organization.
Deliver Decision Support and Analytics
- Leverage advanced financial modeling and analytics to support strategic initiatives, organizational investments, and business decisions.
- Translate complex data into meaningful insights and actionable recommendations for executive stakeholders.
- Develop standardized and ad hoc reporting that enhances visibility into financial performance and supports informed decision-making.
- Continuously improve reporting, analytics, and planning capabilities to increase business value and efficiency.
Lead and Develop a High-Performing Team
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of finance professionals, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and strong business partnership.
- Support employee development, succession planning, and capability building within the team.
- Establish clear priorities and ensure successful execution of key deliverables while promoting professional growth and engagement.
Drive Operational Excellence
- Champion Practical Process Improvement (PPI) and finance transformation initiatives that improve forecasting accuracy, reporting effectiveness, and decision support capabilities.
- Identify and implement opportunities to streamline processes, enhance controls, and improve organizational effectiveness.
- Support integration activities and special projects, as needed.

Primary office location is Waltham, MA (Thermo Fisher Scientific Headquarters).
How You Will Get Here
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field required.
- Master's degree preferred.
Experience
- 7+ years of progressive finance or business experience.
- Experience leading and developing high-performing teams.
- Experience partnering with senior leaders and influencing decisions in a complex, matrixed organization.
- Demonstrated success presenting financial information and recommendations to executive leadership.
- Proven ability to communicate the financial implications of business decisions and organizational dynamics.
- Experience within a large global organization preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong finance, analytical, and accounting foundation with the ability to connect financial results to business outcomes.
- Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills; strong PowerPoint presentation capabilities.
- Experience with Hyperion Planning (PLN 2.0) or comparable planning systems preferred.
- Strong executive presence with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven ability to influence, collaborate, and build effective partnerships across functions and organizational levels.
- Demonstrated ability to solve complex business problems using data-driven insights and analytics.
- Continuous improvement mindset with a focus on driving efficiency and business value.
Travel
- Less than 10% travel.
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range estimated for this position based in Massachusetts is $130,000.00–$194,950.00.This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy.
