Junior Designer Yuppiechef
Yuppiechef is looking for a new Junior Designer to join our in-house Design team within the Marketing department. The role needs someone who loves both the buzz of retail and the craft of great design; someone who's excited to learn from experienced designers, contribute fresh ideas, and develop the technical skills needed to create thoughtful, impactful work across every customer touchpoint.
You'll work closely with our Mid-level and Senior Designers to help execute creative campaigns across a wide range of marketing channels. You'll be responsible for producing polished, on-brand design work while continuously developing your creative and technical skills.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys both digital and print design, has exceptional attention to detail, and is eager to learn how design contributes to a successful retail brand.
Practically, this looks like:
Assisting with private label packaging roll-outs in collaboration with the Buying & Planning teams
Supporting the Design team in rolling out seasonal campaigns across digital, print and in-store channels
Creating and adapting assets for newsletters, social media, website banners, digital advertising, in-store point-of-sale material and other marketing collateral
Producing artwork that is accurate, consistent with brand guidelines and delivered on time
Using your repro knowledge: preparing artwork correctly for printers, suppliers and digital platforms
Participating in brainstorming sessions and contributing creative ideas and visual references as well as presenting design work when required to
Working closely with Marketing, Copy, Photography and Merchandising teams to ensure projects are delivered successfully
What experience and skills you need
Qualifications
A tertiary qualification, such as a BTech degree in Graphic Design or Visual Communication from a recognised institution
Experience
1–2 years' experience in a graphic design role within an agency or design studio where you’ve worked with a team on a range of channels, including packaging
A portfolio demonstrating strong design fundamentals across both digital and print projects, especially in the packaging space
Technical skills
Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign
Good understanding of typography, layout, colour and composition
Comfortable preparing artwork for both digital and print production
Basic understanding of packaging artwork and production processes
Knowledge of video editing, Adobe After Effects or Premiere Pro would be beneficial

We spend three days of the week working together in our office in Westlake, Cape Town, and have two work-from-home days
