Senior Advanced Systems Engineer
As a Senior Advanced Systems Engineer here at Honeywell Aerospace, you will be part of the Auxiliary Power Unit Project Engineering team assessing and driving achievement of program specific performance within Honeywell Power Systems for the G570 APU System. This position will be a key focal within the Project Engineering team, working directly with Project Leadership, the Customer, and a cross-functional team.
You will report directly to our Sr Engineering Manager and you’ll work out of our Phoenix, Arizona location on a Hybrid work schedule.
- Responsible for the engineering support of all Electric Power Generation products and systems to satisfy customer, FAA, and internal requirements
- Lead and support liaison activities with Honeywell cross-functional teams, suppliers, and customers
- Lead investigations and resolve issues for production, Integrated Supply Chain (ISC), and customers, field failures, application problems and design related product problems
- Design, detail, and implement components, parts, and assemblies in support of Electric Power Generation Products including the specific features of shafts, gears, splines, bearings, bearing supports and retainers, preload mechanisms, interference fits, alignment datums and surfaces, EM cores, rotating structures, high power electrical interfaces and connections, heat transfer structures, and fluid flow systems
- Champion process and product improvements in response to cost reduction, value engineering, reliability improvement, and customer satisfaction drivers
- Coordinate drawing changes as required to implement product improvements and to support supplier process, yield, and compliance performance based upon reliability, cost, and performance requirements
- Coordinate design to cost and design for manufacturability efforts for product development
- Coordinate and conduct design and analysis tasks in accordance with customer definitions, specifications, and requirements
- Define service parameters and make product selections for bearings, seals, gaskets, sensors, instruments, o-rings, power transfer couplings and interfaces, and other components to support the end unit design
- Read, interpret, and comprehend customer specifications and requirements as they relate to new and existing products
- Produce clear, concise, and technically accurate reports to communicate findings, analyses, and technical position statements
- Review and edit the technical work of others. Provide constructive critical feedback to assure a high standard of the work products submitted to customers.
- Mentor other engineers within the group. Develop and support training plans for the growth of the engineers within the group.
- Maintain a current knowledge of industry standard hardware usage, design trends, and emerging mechanical engineering and design analysis techniques
- Handle hardware, perform assembly and disassembly tasks, and use common hand tools, power tools, and inspection instruments
- Travel as required to support field, customer interface, or supplier engagement
YOU MUST HAVE
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as science, technology, engineering, mathematics.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in industry or technically related work
- Motor and generator machine design and development experience a strong plus.

- Hands-on background in New Product Development (NPD), R&D, or aerospace testing
- Proven ability to work with minimal direction in a cross-functional team environment
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- Proficiency in solving technical problems through analytical thinking and innovation
- Proactive in anticipating, identifying, and taking actions on potential issues and problems
- Proficient practical experience in conceptual and detailed design of small and medium-sized rotating electromagnetic machines (motors, generators)
- Demonstrated ability to produce product designs in a requirements-based environment and control process, (model-based systems environment and digital twin development experience is highly valued)
- Skilled to work in a team environment with rapidly changing priorities and perform multiple tasks with critical concurrent deadlines
- Proficiency to lead a team and effectively coordinate the efforts of others to achieve the desired work output
- Demonstrated ability to lead work efforts and motivate high performance of team members
- Excels in the ability to think independently and formulate conclusions consistent with the information available
- Excels in the ability to transform creative ideas and new technology concepts into functional design elements
- Demonstrate role-model level of work behaviors including accountability, integrity and ethics in the performance of assigned tasks
