Public Safety Officer Facility St. John's Hospital Location US-KS-Leavenworth ID 2026-270169 Category Service Position Type Per Diem Shift Variable Job Type Non-Exempt Overview Department: SecurityEmployment Type: Per Diem (PD/PRN)Shifts Available: VariableHours: VariableLocation: St Johns Hospital - Leavenworth, KSWe are seeking a Public Safety Officer, sometimes referred to as a Hospital Security Officer or Healthcare Security Officer.  The Public Safety Officer will perform a range of security duties including electronic surveillance and routine manual patrols to ensure the safety of the facility. The Public Safety Officer will coordinate responses to incidents involving patients, staff, and visitors while enforcing policies and procedures fairly and consistently. The Public Safety Officer will collaborate with the Environment of Care Committee to support a multidisciplinary approach to safety and security at our hospital. This position is on a per diem basis, meaning PD/PRN as needed. Responsibilities Access Control and Patrols: monitor entrances, exits, and restricted areas; conduct regular interior and exterior patrols to deter theft, violence, or unsafe behaviorEmergency Response: respond to emergency codes and assist with crowd control, evacuation, or containment as neededDe-escalation and Conflict Management: intervene in disruptive situations using de-escalation techniques to calm agitated patients or visitors, often in collaboration with clinical staffPatient and Visitor Assistance: escort patients or visitors safely through the facility, provide directions, and assist with lost-and-found or personal property issuesIncident Documentation: write detailed reports on incidents, accidents, or safety hazards and report findings to supervisors or risk management Qualifications Experience in Healthcare security or related field preferredHigh School Diploma or Equivalent requiredCertification from IAHSS (International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety) preferredValid State Driver’s license upon hire and maintained currentCurrent DMV reportFull benefits at Prime Healthcare: https://www.primehealthcare.com/careers/benefits/ #LI-CB1 Employment Status Per Diem Shift Variable Equal Employment Opportunity Company is an equal employment opportunity employer.
