This job contributes to Starbucks success by leading the development, execution, and delivery of solutions that help Starbucks identify new store growth and reinvestment opportunities and the efforts to execute against the opportunity. Collaborates with cross-functional teams to develop and deliver solutions and insights that are cutting edge and best-in-class in commercial real estate growth and development. Accountable for successful implementation of new solutions into the Starbucks business, namely across licensees and international store development. Develops and manages budgets, work plans, staffing plans (if applicable), and recognition and retention initiatives in support of program goals. Models and acts in accordance with Starbucks guiding principles.
As a director of market planning, you will:
- Inspire and influence others to deliver on our growth objectives – You will leverage your real estate growth expertise and business strategy skills to lead a small team of market planners and technologists to deliver on our growth plan.
- Manage others – You will set goals for the work team and actively providing partners with coaching, feedback and development opportunities and modeling leadership behavior for the larger team.
- Lead the development and delivery of store development systems – You will be responsible for driving change in store development systems to deliver an approach to market growth strategy. This will include GIS systems, data visualization and project management systems.
- Enjoy working on an energetic, fun team and have a clear ability to drive the business forward as part of a highly collaborative team, while acting in accordance with Starbucks guiding principles.

- Leads and influences across functions, regions and cultures. Works closely with functional, regional and program leadership to align the organization for successful deployment of large-scale initiatives.

Strategy and Execution \- Developing strategic and operational plans for the team, managing execution, and measuring results
- Triangulates current economic, retail business, and commercial real estate information to lead the formation of business opportunities and applies solutions that deliver market growth
- Interprets sets of data or data structures, and transforms into a set of information applied in a storytelling context for executive level communication and fact/data driven decision making
- Drives change through the organization to enhance Starbucks approach to market growth by delivering a technology platform environment that accelerates and supports decision making
- Partners with finance and field leaders to brief current conditions and business forecasts that will inform future growth strategies
Partner Development & Team Building \- Providing partners with coaching, feedback, and developmental opportunities and building effective teams
- Challenges and inspires team members to achieve business results.
- Conducts and ensures the completion of performance reviews.
- Ensures partners adhere to legal and operational compliance requirements.
- Oversees training and development of partners directly and indirectly managed and makes effective staffing decisions.
- Provides coaching, direction and leadership support to team members in order to achieve partners, business and customer results
We’d love to hear from people with:
- Demonstrated strategic and technological expertise in consumer-focused industries (food service, retail, consumer goods)
- Experience leading and developing commercial real estate growth strategy: 5 years or more
- Advanced experience with technology tools like ArcGIS, Alteryx, Microsoft Databricks, Azure, Python, Power BI & virtual collaboration tools
- Market Planning and/or commercial real estate experience: 5 years
- Progressive experience in business process design and leading multiple large program or project implementations within a large, global company: 5 years
- Budgeting, planning and managing projects and programs: 5 years
- Supervision of diverse international work groups: 5 years
- Working across organizational boundaries at all levels, including executive positions: 5 years

*If you are working in CA, CO, IL, LA, ME, MA, NE, ND or RI, you will accrue vacation up to a maximum of 120 hours (190 in CA) for roles below director and 200 hours (316 in CA) for roles at director or above. For roles in other states, you will be granted vacation time starting at 120 hours annually for roles below director and 200 hours annually for roles director and above.
The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity. At Starbucks, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
