Service Application Engineer
Eaton’s Electrical Engineering Services & Systems Division (EESS) is currently seeking a Service Application Engineer. This role is hybrid from Roseville, CA or Pleasanton, CA with up to 20% travel.
Directs and supports the development of technical applications and proposals for medium, large, and complex opportunities pertaining to Eaton related services and solutions. Functions as a strategic partner in driving solution design, pricing strategy, and proposal execution to meet customer requirements across diverse market segments. Coordinates with cross-functional teams to deliver tailored engineering service offerings that enhance operational performance, ensure compliance, and maximize customer value.
The expected annual salary range for this role is $108,000 - $158,000 a year. This position is also eligible for a sales incentive program.

What you’ll do:
- Lead the development of technical proposals, bid packages, cost estimates, and pricing strategies for power distribution projects across the West Region.
- Serve as a technical advisor to Sales, channel partners, consultants, end users, and internal teams, providing application support and customized solutions for national accounts and data center customers.
- Analyze project specifications, develop technical and commercial solutions, prepare subcontractor scopes of work, and coordinate with third-party vendors to deliver competitive proposals.
- Support Eaton's portfolio of engineering services, digital solutions, aftermarket offerings, extended warranties, power system engineering, and electrical worker training programs.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve proposal processes, pricing models, quotation tools, and standardization efforts that enhance efficiency and customer experience.
- Lead project handoff activities, identify additional scope opportunities, and ensure smooth transition from proposal development to project execution.
- Conduct customer presentations, participate in site visits, and work alongside sales and field service teams to understand customer requirements and promote Eaton solutions.
- Track proposal activity, maintain customer relationships, and deliver exceptional service while meeting project deadlines.
- Mentor junior team members, support knowledge sharing, and pursue ongoing professional development.
- Travel up to 25% to support customers, projects, and regional initiatives.
Qualifications:
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution OR a high school diploma/GED combined with a minimum of seven (7) years of experience in electrical industry, electrical field service, military, and/or electrical service estimator.
- Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted driver's license.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in one or more of the following areas: application engineering, proposal development, electrical service estimating, technical marketing, engineering, sales, strategic planning, operations, or product management.
- This role is designated as a Regular Driver per Eaton’s Driver Safety Policy and requires a current, unrestricted driver’s license along with a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record. Candidates will be subject to a motor vehicle record check upon hire.
- Submit to periodic customer required background and drug screenings.
- Must be able to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship now and within the future. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Experience supporting power distribution, substation, data center, or electrical system installation projects through engineering, estimating, proposal development, or project execution.
- Demonstrated experience developing complex technical and commercial proposals, including solution development, labor estimating, pricing strategy, risk evaluation, subcontractor scope development, and proposal compliance reviews.
- Strong knowledge of electrical power distribution products, systems, engineering services, and service solutions, with the ability to develop customer-focused technical solutions.
- Experience supporting private sector and government customers across multiple market segments, including Data Center, Industrial, Commercial, Healthcare, Utility, Institutional, and Government.
- Working knowledge of the sales and proposal lifecycle, including customer engagement, channel-to-market strategies, stakeholder coordination, and negotiation support.
- Proven ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships, deliver technical presentations, and effectively resolve customer concerns.
- Experience writing and reviewing subcontractor statements of work, evaluating technical specifications, and supporting contract and commercial risk management activities.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license and/or NETA Associate membership.
- Experience utilizing digital tools and software platforms to support proposal development, product configuration, estimating, and pricing activities.
