About the Role
We are looking for a Computer Scientist 2 to join the Adobe Developer Platform (ADP) I/O Events team and help build the eventing backbone that powers extensibility and integrations across Adobe’s digital experience ecosystem.
This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys building high-scale backend platforms, distributed systems, and event-driven infrastructure. You will work on the services that enable Adobe products such as Commerce, Marketo, AEM, and other DX solutions to publish, route, and deliver events reliably to downstream consumers and integrations.
As part of the I/O Events team, you will contribute to a platform that sits at the intersection of product integration, developer platform infrastructure, and cloud-scale event delivery. You will collaborate closely with product teams, architects, partner engineering groups, and fellow platform engineers to build resilient services, improve reliability, and expand platform capabilities used across Adobe.
What You’ll Do
- Compose, build, test, and operate core backend services for the Adobe I/O Events platform.
- Develop scalable, reliable, and secure systems for event ingestion, routing, filtering, and delivery.
- Build APIs and platform capabilities that allow Adobe product teams to publish and manage event-driven integrations at scale.
- Improve the performance, durability, and operational efficiency of a high-throughput, multi-tenant eventing platform.
- Work on distributed systems challenges such as efficiency, back-pressure, retries, fault tolerance, ordering, idempotency, and delivery guarantees.
- Partner with teams across Adobe to onboard new event providers and support product integration use cases.
- Participate in architecture reviews, build discussions, code reviews, and operational readiness for production services.
- Investigate and resolve complex issues in cloud-native, distributed production environments.
- Contribute to engineering excellence through testing, automation, CI/CD, telemetry, monitoring, and incident prevention.
- Drive adoption of AI-assisted engineering practices by integrating GenAI capabilities into developer workflows, enabling faster development, improved code quality, and enhanced engineering efficiency.
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 7-10 years of software engineering experience building production-quality backend systems, platform services, or infrastructure components.
- Strong programming skills in one or more backend languages such as Java, Python.
- Experience building and operating APIs, microservices, or distributed backend systems in a cloud environment.
- Solid understanding of distributed systems fundamentals, including scalability, resiliency, concurrency, failure handling, and debugging.
- Experience with test automation, source control, code review, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong problem-solving ability and ease working in a collaborative, cross-functional engineering environment.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with high scale event-driven architectures, messaging systems, or streaming/event platforms with strong reliability and performance requirements.
- Experience with cloud-native architecture, containerized services, or serverless event-consumption patterns.
- Experience with production monitoring, alerting, performance tuning, and operational excellence.
- Familiarity with secure service development, authentication/authorization, and enterprise integration patterns.
- Experience collaborating within a multi-team platform setting where reliability, adoption, scale, and ease of integration are crucial.
- Good understanding of GenAI technologies, including LLMs, Coding AI assistants, agents, RAG, prompt engineering, embeddings, and vector databases.
