The Opportunity
Downer’s Energy & Utilities business is seeking an experienced Finance Manager to join our Water Services team. Reporting to the General Manager Finance – Water, this leadership role is responsible for partnering with operational and finance stakeholders to deliver strong commercial outcomes across a portfolio of projects and contracts.
Working closely with operational leaders, you'll provide strategic financial insights, oversee forecasting and reporting, drive financial governance, and contribute to business planning and performance improvement initiatives. You'll also lead and mentor a capable finance team while supporting the ongoing growth and success of the Urban Utilities business.
This is an exciting opportunity for a commercially astute finance leader who enjoys working in a dynamic project environment and partnering with operational teams to influence outcomes and drive continuous improvement.
What You'll Do
- Partner with operational leaders to deliver financial and commercial outcomes across projects and contracts.
- Lead forecasting, budgeting, month-end reporting, project valuations, and financial performance analysis.
- Drive effective working capital management, cash flow optimisation, and financial governance.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing finance team, fostering capability growth and succession planning.
- Support contract reviews, bids, strategic planning, and business improvement initiatives.

What We're Looking For
We are looking for a commercially minded finance professional who combines strong technical capability with exceptional stakeholder engagement and leadership skills:
- CPA or CA qualified with tertiary qualifications in Finance, Accounting or Commerce.
- Demonstrated experience in a senior finance leadership role, ideally within a large-scale contracting, infrastructure, utilities or project-based environment.
- Strong understanding of project accounting, forecasting, financial reporting, working capital management, and long-term contracts.
- Proven ability to build trusted relationships, influence stakeholders, and partner effectively with operational teams.
- Experience leading and developing teams, with exposure to ERP systems such as JDE or SAP and advanced Excel capabilities.
