The Role
The Role:
As the Power BI Factory Shift Lead, you will lead on‑shift delivery for migrating Power BI artefacts and operational configurations between tenants, using the programme’s approved migration approach and tooling. Power BI tenant transitions can involve complex dependencies, workspaces, permissions, datasets/semantic models, gateways, refresh credentials and service configuration, requiring tight operational control, high evidence quality and disciplined defect management. You will be accountable for shift throughput and quality gates, ensuring the team executes repeatable runbooks, captures robust proof and restores service quickly when issues arise.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead Power BI tenant migration execution during your shift: scheduling, monitoring, validation and defect triage.
- Manage migration runbooks for workspaces, reports, datasets/semantic models and access models; enforce quality gates and acceptance criteria.
- Coordinate gateway and refresh reconfiguration activities (where in scope), ensuring credentials and connectivity are validated post‑migration.
- Own shift‑level triage for failures: broken refreshes, access issues, missing dependencies, workspace settings mismatches and post‑migration user experience defects.
- Drive evidence capture: migration reports/logs, validation outputs, refresh test proof and sign‑off artefacts per wave.
- Execute and oversee structured cutovers: pre‑cutover readiness checks, controlled wave execution and post‑cutover stabilisation/hypercare.
- Coordinate with Shared Data, Identity/Entra Apps and Security teams on dependencies impacting Power BI authentication, permissions, or data access.
- Maintain shift backlog and prioritisation aligned to wave plan, SLAs and risk.
- Produce clear shift handover packs including open issues, mitigations and next actions.
- Improve runbooks and operational dashboards to reduce repeat defects and increase throughput.
Who You Are
Must‑Have (or equivalent experience):
- Delivered a production tenant‑to‑tenant Power BI migration in your capacity as a senior SME/lead (using the approved pattern/tooling available in that programme).
- Strong Power BI service knowledge: workspaces, permissions, datasets/semantic models, reports, apps and operational administration concepts.
- Experience reconfiguring and validating post‑migration operational components (refresh schedules, gateway connectivity, credential handling, access remapping).
- Strong runbook discipline: proven capability building/operating repeatable processes with robust evidence capture.
- Comfortable leading delivery in a 24x7 three‑shift model with formal handovers and accountable shift outcomes.
- Strong troubleshooting capability and structured incident management for Power BI service and migration-related issues.
Good‑to‑Have:
- Microsoft certification (PL‑300 or equivalent) and/or broader Microsoft 365 admin certification (MS‑102).
- Experience with third‑party migration platforms that support Power BI artefact movement, reporting and validation in tenant transitions.
- Familiarity with data governance and access control patterns relevant to analytics platforms (least privilege, admin roles, audit).
- Familiarity with capacity considerations and operational monitoring/telemetry practices.
Interpersonal & Consulting Skills:
- Leads under pressure with calm clarity and rigorous operational control.
- Communicates risk and status crisply to global stakeholders; avoids vague reporting.
- Coaches engineers to follow disciplined operational practices, including ticket hygiene and evidence capture.
- Strong cross‑team collaboration habits to resolve dependency issues quickly.
- Makes practical trade‑offs explicit; documents decisions and rationale.
- Drives continuous improvement through root cause elimination, not workarounds.
Typical Deliverables / KPIs:
- Throughput: workspaces/artefacts migrated per shift vs plan.
- Defect rate: post‑migration access/refresh failures and rework volume.
- MTTR: time to restore service for priority Power BI incidents during waves.
- Evidence capture: completeness of validation proof and exportable audit artefacts.
- SLA: on‑time completion of migration waves and timely escalation of blockers.
Shift / Working Pattern Notes:
- This role operates within a three‑shift 24x7 Factory model. The specific rota will be confirmed, but shift handovers are mandatory and performance is measured on shift outcomes. Peak cutover windows may require schedule flexibility.
