Are you a driven candidate with solid experience? If so, we are looking for you!  We are looking for Rubber Lab Tech , who will partner with our team at our Wiles-Barre, PA location. You will be responsible for providing quality products to our customers in a timely, cost-efficient manner.

Summary

 The Utility Tool & Testing Technician is a hands-on role responsible for inspecting, testing, repairing, refurbishing, and assembling specialized equipment used throughout the electric utility industry. This position works with utility tools, stringing blocks, grounding assemblies, fiberglass products, and other equipment critical to safe and reliable field operations.

The ideal candidate has strong mechanical aptitude, enjoys troubleshooting and rebuilding equipment, and takes pride in delivering high-quality workmanship. Responsibilities include inspecting, sorting, diagnosing, repairing, and testing stringing blocks and related utility equipment, as well as supporting equipment certification, inventory management, and customer fulfillment activities. This role works closely with service, rental, and sales teams to ensure customers receive safe, reliable, and ready-to-use equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities


 Stringing Blocks

  • Perform inspection, sorting, repair, refurbishment, and functional testing of stringing blocks, travelers, and associated stringing equipment used in the electric utility industry.

Fiberglass Equipment

  • Inspect, repair, refurbish, and test fiberglass hot sticks, temporary conductor supports, and other fiberglass utility equipment in accordance with ASTM standards.

Rubber Goods Testing

  • Inspect, clean, test, and certify rubber insulating goods, including gloves, sleeves, blankets, line hose, and covers in accordance with ASTM standards.

Tool Repair & Calibration

  • Inspect, diagnose, repair, calibrate, and test hydraulic, pneumatic, battery-powered, gas-powered, and manual tools used in the electric utility industry.

Grounding & Bonding Cables

  • Assemble, repair, and test temporary grounding and bonding cable assemblies used in electrical utility applications.

 

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and test equipment.
  • Experience using hand tools, power tools, measuring devices, and testing equipment.
  • Ability to read and follow technical manuals, work instructions, and testing procedures.
  • Ability to identify worn, damaged, or non-conforming components and determine appropriate corrective actions.
  • Basic computer skills for entering inspection, testing, repair, and inventory data.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and time management skills.
  • Strong attendance record and commitment to workplace safety.

Working Conditions

 

  • Attendance – The ability to work an 8 hour workday as scheduled with punctual attendance, Monday-Friday plus any additional hours/days necessary to meet business demands.

  • May be exposed to bright lights, extreme temperatures, loud noise, dust, gas and/or fumes.


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to safely lift, carry, move, and position materials and equipment weighing up to 75 pounds.
  • Comfortable performing a variety of physical tasks throughout the workday, including lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, bending, kneeling, crouching, and occasional climbing.
  • Ability to work safely from ladders, platforms, and other elevated work surfaces as needed.
  • Ability to perform detailed inspection, testing, and repair work that requires both close-up and distance vision, with or without corrective lenses.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout shop, warehouse, testing, and outdoor work environments during the workday.
  • Ability to work in a hands-on, fast-paced environment while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, and productivity.
