A Glimpse of the Job
The Open Records Specialist I, under general direction, is responsible for assisting with daily open records operations and processing routine open records information requests. Texas Public Information Act governs the activity of this position.
Essential Duties
Records Operations
Assists in coordinating the tracking, preparation and completion of regulatory filings and other compliance related documents
Assists in ensuring that documents fulfill all requirements and meet regulatory deadlines
Assists with monitoring compliance controls, including destruction records
Assists more senior personnel with daily open records operations
Enters routine information into appropriate databases and maintain records and logs
Runs various standard reports and more complex reports at the request of leadership
Manually logs new requests received from sources outside the typical database
Prioritizes incoming requests and escalates requests to appropriate personnel
Tracks requests turnaround and other statistics
Processes routine and non-complex open records requests
Communicates with external stakeholders and answers customer questions regarding open records requests
Completes cost estimates for routine requests.
Assist the Director for Open Records
Works with the System Office of General Counsel (OGC) throughout the request process
Compiles and prepares responses to requests for OGC review
Reviews responses and notes exceptions to disclosure and note information that is protected under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
Redacts information as directed by the Office of the Attorney General prior to release

Salary: $25/hour

Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
